Wild in the streets (never trust a vegetarian) - By: B. Chandler, 07 Aug 2006
The eyes of the civilized world have never seen adventure & romance like this. A silent film with sound effects.
Professor Challenger (Wallace Beery) comesin to the possession of Professor Whites lost diary. It was brought to him by the surviving daughter Miss Paula (Bessie Love). When he is not mangling newspaper reporters he intends to prove the story of a plateauin Brazil still harbors the descendents of dinosaurs.
We see all the members of the expedition to both prove the existence of dinosaurs but also to save Paula's father. The adventure allows us to see fallen trees & dinosaur fights eight years before King Kong repeats the performance.
A friendly brontosaurus nibbles at the fallen tree that was to be their escape rout. So it looks like Paula will have to learn to love Edward (Lloyd Hughes) a news paper man that endeared himself to the curmudgeon Challenger. And what is to become of Sir John Roxton (Lewis Stone) who made no secret that he also isin love with Paula?
Always lurkingin the background is the evil minded Ape-man (no not Tarzan) Bull Montana.
The Lost World 1925 review - By: Reiss Ferlance, 12 May 2006
The Lost World 1925 is a great film. I've read the book also. Not much teenagers watch silent films, but I do.(I'm 14,writing this now. It's a likable film with characters that make the film great. The dinosaurs we see are also likable. And the "Brontosaurusin London" part is the climax. This film that I bought runs for 63 minutes.I hope they show the 93 minute version on television.
Stunning animation from the silent era - By: pointone, 15 Mar 2006
This wonderful restoration of a seminal film that was destroyed by the studio at the start of the talkie era anticipating a remake (this materialised as “King Kong”). We only have this virtually complete & excellent print due to an unknown copy recently discoveredin Prague.
The animated dinosaurs must have left audiences speechlessin 1925; even now they stand up as outstanding examples of stop motion animation,in fact where the dinosaurs are fleeing the volcano one completely forgets the film was made eighty years ago.
From the star point of view it is one of Bessie Love’s best roles, although she had one of the longest film careers spanning 1916 to 1981 her career faded during the mid 1930s.
This is a multi tinted print commonly distributed at the time & comes with a long selection of animation out takes, & two alternative soundtracks, one traditional & one modern,
So roll up ladies & gentlemen, sit & marvel at the precursor of “King Kong”, “Jurassic Park” & “Godzilla”.
Beware! The Elstree Hill version is not recommended! - By: , 05 Feb 2006
This is not really a review, but just to say that the Elstree Hill release of this film is a travesty, containing no extras & the most appallingly low bit-rate I have ever seen on a film. The picture at times looks as though it is renderedin mosaic form & it bears no resemblance to the other version of the film by Eureka Video (EKA 50003) which is correctly tinted, is beautifully restored, has some superb extras, & actually runs for around 93 minutes.
Please don't buy this dreadful Elstree Hill version & instead seek out the much better version which exists.
And Amazon, please correct your write up of this version so that it represents the product you are selling!!!!
Superb Film - By: H, 01 Jan 2006
They don't make dinsosaurs like this any more! I don't know what kind of special effects I was expecting, but these are superb, considering the film is now 81 years old. These monsters have personality, something which todays monsters don't.
