![]() Comparing Prices... Customer ReviewsEnjoyable silly fun - By: Mr. S. A. Brown, 06 Jan 2009![]() This film tends to divide a lot of opinion, but I enjoyed it. Essentially it's an intentionally silly story about three convicts running around the Deep Southin the 1930s getting into scrapes, adventures & various other nonsense (there's more to the plot than this, but essentially that's what it is). It's neither laugh out loud funny, nor as intelligently written as The Big Lebowski, but it worksin its own way if you're of a particular mindset & don't find the saccharin fluffiness of it all too grating. Clearly, it'sin no way comparable to some of the Coen brothers' more serious efforts (Blood Simple, No Country For Old Men, etc) & if you're expecting anything of this nature then you'll be sorely disappointed. The closest comparison,in terms of style at least, are some of the tonguein cheek adventure films from the 80s such as Back to the Future. Enjoyable, silly fun. Where art thou Blues fans? - By: Reculet, 01 Oct 2008 ![]() I've seen this movie several times now & I'm still fascinated by it - I'm no particular fan of George Clooney or the Coen brothers or Bluegrass music (or even of Homer), but this movie is so cleverly constructed & well acted, with multiple threads that hang & re-cross throughout the story, that each time I watch I see a connection I missedin previous viewings. Reading the other reviews I guess I must be the only ageing Blues fan out here - but Robert Johnson must be up there (sorry, down there) somewhere, smiling if he's seen it. Unbelievably funny with strangely addicting music - By: Ramblin' Bob, 11 Sep 2008 ![]() I didn't think I would like this film. For one, I normally do not like George Clooney. I cannot think of any other films he has beenin that I liked. It was a big surprise that this has become one of my favourite films of all time. And, honestly, it is all down to the characterisation. The characters are acted so well that they are outlandish but believable, from the main four to Babyface Nelson, Big Dan & Hogwallop. The story holds you spellbound with both the antics that the Soggy Bottom Boys get into & then the music adds another dimension. The humour, whilst at times a bit slapstick, is not overdone. Overall, this film is great fun. I own the CD & the soundtrack. Best film I've seen for years - By: A. Nelson, 01 Sep 2008 ![]() This is cinema of the highest calibre. Just like most Coen brothers films, it's not the millions spent on sets, or special effects (they're low to mid budget all the way) but the human touch that sets this apart. Homer was a good place to start, as it could be said that the Homeric poems laid the foundation for secular western literature. Add the genius of the Coen Brothers, & the old-fashioned "cinematic magic" qualities of Clooney, & you have a product that will not age. I've watched it only once so far, but I have half a dozen timeless quotes, for anyone willing to listen, including "I don't want Fop, goddammit. I'm a Dapper Dan man" Se it for yourself. Five stars aren't enough. Waste of your time - By: S. Harrington, 25 Jul 2008 ![]() This film goes downhill which is a difficult feat because it starts off very badly anyway, boring , just not funny did not like anything about this film , tries to hard to be wacky but only succeeds to be backward & extremley tedious, just not my cup of tea ,
