Sheer entertainment. - By: laineyf, 23 Mar 2008
This is a great film, funny, girly, a little bit mean at times, but great. I have to say that Rupert Everett totally steals this film from Julia Roberts & co. He is wonderful!! The scene where they are all sat at the table, & they start singing Arethas' 'Say A Little Prayer' is an absolute classic, & has mein stitches!! He is so dry & acerbic, & so very funny. I want him for my friend!! Julia Roberts, is of course, excellent, as are Cameron Diaz & Dermot Mulroney, but for me, it is definitely Ruperts' film!! I love it.
worth seeing but it lacks punch - By: dan the fan, 13 Sep 2007
My Best Friend's Wedding is interesting to watch throughout its duration
of 101 minutes but it is not laugh-out-loud funny or very involving from the romance point of view. The last ten minutes are original & quite moving & uplifting. The beautiful locations around Chicago are worth seeingin themselves & the extras section has interviews with Julia Roberts,Cameron Diaz,Rupert Everett & Dermot Mulroney.
Rupert Everett eclipses both Diaz and Julia Roberts - By: Jay, 23 May 2007
The film redeems itself tremendouslyin the form of Rupert Everett as George. It does helps that he has some of the best scenes & lines, & his finesse & charisma makes it work so well - almost too well. He steals every scene he'sin with ease, & created some great moments ... most notably the infectious dining scene where he leads the whole restaurant into a catchy song, & then near the end where he has his little talk with Julia & leads her out to the dance floor.
great movie - By: K. L. Winyard, 22 Apr 2007
It's been a while since I've seen this but I can say that it is a fantastic movie!

It's a romance comedy. Rupert Everett is hilarious!
I loved the characters. The storyline is basically that julia roberts realises she isin love with her best friend but he is getting marriedin 3 days so she has 3 days to sabotage the wedding. The ending was sad because I've beenin the situation when I loved someone who is taken. It depends how you look at it.
THREE ACT PLAY WITH ONE GOOD ACT IN IT - By: F. Sweet, 24 Aug 2006
What an exaggeration. Who can believe that professional food critic, Julianne Potter's (unevenly played by J. Roberts) treachery & sociopathology adopted by this character to kidnap her boyfriend (unspectacularly played by Dermot Mulroney) on the eve of his wedding to Perfect Miss America (well played by the pretty verging on gorgeous Cameron Diaz)? Well so much for the writing.

However, hidden by the not entirely banal humor, I "discovered" a gem of a sub-plot involving Julianne's confidante & guru George, a homosexual. This segment of the film (I'll call it the Second Act) was both refeshingly well written & also brilliantly acted by Rupert Everett. He was convincing & just terrific ... Academy Award thespian quality. What I enjoyed is how without clichés & cheap shots at gays,in fact George's "special" sexual orientation & senistivity to relationships was portrayed as a strength ... rather than something to be ridiculed. Most gay rolesin films tend to exploit exaggerations of the gay stereotype. I make this observation as a conventionally straight male.

Meanwhile, Everett acted the role with dignity & marvelous control, & when he & Roberts acted togetherin scenes during the middle of the film (absurdly pretending to be engaged, calculated to make Mulroney's character jealous) the humor flowed.

Perhaps there was some kind of special chemistry betwen Roberts & Everett that made them shine when they acted togetherin this film. But, alas, there wasen't enough of this chemical to go around. Overall, this was an O.K. but not a good (never mind excellent) movie.
