Quite pointless really, clearly what they put on the cover is to entice wider audience from shall we say, "adult" category, so they will be disappointed as equally those expecting insightful drama what with Auteuil as a main cast. Interesting from the observation point of view but not a cinematic success

I am not sure that a psychological crisis of an over-forty French writer, a husband & father, & his strange dependance on a young & cynical manin London who provides male escorts, is really a topic which I would like to investigate & analyse.
It is well filmed. The actors perform very professionally. As a fan of Daniel Auteuil, I would say that this is not his best role, although the moral degradation of a hero is shown very carefully.
I would recommend this film as a good example of modern cinematograph, & another example of professional abilities of Daniel Auteuil. But NOT as a pleasant evening entertainment after a day of hard work...

I strongly recommend you to watch this film, because the story unlike most movies these days tell you something new that you can never imaginein your normal life. If you are going to London for the 1st time the film gives you some clues about London societyin a different point of view from usual tourist guides for example when the film starts with a very old trickin SOHO area I admired the director & players that it seemed to me like a true documentary film. The film also shows you the reality of an unemployed man & his new life after he is separated from his wife, which can be so bitter.
NOT Pornography - By: , 14 Jul 2003 I first saw part of this movie on television. I bought the DVD to see the rest of the movie & it's great! I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes a film with a serious, yet quirky plot that at the same time is somewhat amusing.
While the cover of this DVD may suggest otherwise, this movie is not pornographic! So if you're looking for pornography, please look elsewhere. I'm really disappointed that they chose such a cover for this DVD because it doesn't reflect the content of the movie at all. Don't be mislead & please don't judge a DVD by its cover!
The story is about a struggling French writer/lecturer, Pierre (Auteuil), who abruptly leaves his family one day & travels to London because he feels that he has lived a boring life; "a life without any risks". Pierre, who is clearly suffering through a mid-life crisis, hopes to find some inspiration for his novelin a bustling new city. Whilstin London, he accidentally befriends Tom (Townsend), the charming owner of a cafe who also happens to be a part-time male escort. From this chance encounter with Tom, Pierre eventually scores a menial job working for Tom at his cafe. It is also from Tom that Pierre accidentally stumbles upon male escorting as a means to make his ends meet. But instead of spending time on his novel, Pierre eventually becomes fully entrenchedin his risky new lifestyle, thereby leaving no time for his writing. As a result, the relationship between Pierre & Tom gradually becomes strained as the lines between employer, colleague & friendship are blurred. Not only does Pierre lose his only friend, Tom, he also loses his family & ultimately, himself.
Contrary to what you may have heard, there is not a lot of French dialoguein this movie. There are about 3 short scenes, with Frenchin them: the scene where Pierre speaks with his wife on the phone, the scene where he speaks with his son on the streets of London & the scene where he speaks with his wife on a bus. Plus, these are all subtitled on this UK edition DVD anyway.
This is an excellent movie & I hope you enjoy it.
