Different and I like it! - By: CrazyBlue, 31 Jul 2007
I have only recently started to listen to daft punk. But I decided to watch this. And I wasn't let down. This is a supurb anime film, but the difference is that there is no proper dialogue. Instead is the music from daft punk's second album, & this actually works really well. Also it has some great songs such as: Harder Better Faster Stronger, One More Time, Face to Face & Too Long. If you willing to see & listen to something different, then give this a go!
Brilliant idea... but sadly this is incredibly dull - By: Ffrench, 05 Jun 2007
I am baffled by the all the 100% positive reviews. I'm a massive fan of daft punk, & love this album. But be warned, the pacingin these videos is excruciatingly slow. There are a few interesting ideas dotted about, but the majority of this dvd consists of needlessly long, repetitive shots that become really quite painful after a couple of songs.
This feels like 10 minutes of content stretched to fit over an entire album. I REALLY wanted this to be good, & by the reviews on here many people seem to enjoy it - but myself & everyone i've shown this dvd to find it unwatchably dull.
By all means buy this if you're a daft punk obsessive but be aware that you may be extremely disappointed with it, like me. A wasted opportunity.
Interstella super - By: Richard Bowden, 08 Sep 2006
In its way a remarkable film, & a genuine one-off, which deserves to be better known amongst animation lovers. Co-director Leiji Matsumoto, who during his long careerin anime has been associatedin one capacity or another with such cheesy epics as Space Battleship Yamato, the Harlock Saga, Star Blazers & etc, worked with Daft Punk (a French two-man band specialisingin electronic rock) on this unique feature. Deliberately recreating the extreme glam stylisation of the 1970's/early 80's Japanese animation style, albeit done with more fluidity & detail which modern day budgets & software allow, Matsumoto has married image & sound to hypnotic effectin a movie whichin effect is both unique & unforgettable. A "digital love story" of a kidnapped technoband - who incidentally travel togetherin a Scooby-Do like 'Mystery Machine' as events unfold - & an evil music impresario (echoes of the obscure Toomorrow (1970) here - anyone seen that?). Despite some snipes at pop exploitation, there are no great depths here story-wise, although there are dark elements, such as the painful burial of a deceased major character. But the characterisation is not important, as it was not what the creators were after, instead preferring to leave the graphic designs & timings to unfold on their own account. What makes the film so great is the peculiar manga-music hybrid that results, as the stylised visual design & editing rhythms join with a contemporary soundtrack (the entire film is wordless outside of lyrics)in a way which is both culturally nostalgic as well as being strikingly modern, hypnotic even,in effect. The plastic surface which results entirely transcends the original pulp manga inspiration. In short it's a film which sounds naff but, somehow, works. As an achievement the result is miles ahead of the director's previous, briskly produced juvenelia & ought to be required viewing.
Daft punk: Interstella 5555 - By: Mr. M. R. Golds, 09 May 2006
Four words, OH MY GOOD GOD. I love this film it is the ultimate togetherness of the classic Daft Punk Discovery album & the amazing animation of one of the worlds top anime/manga artists.
The basic idea is for those of you who have seen televised music video's to "One More Time" & "Aerodynaimc" would know that they involve a musical band who are kidnapped for the sick plesure of an old dude with a beard picture santa clause but angry & more thin. They are then well if I told you you wouldn't buy it so just trust me it rocks, one of my favourite anime films which I keep close to my anime collection trust me if you like daft punk/anime this film is most definatly for you.

This is an incredible film. It's heart warming, moving, yet at the same time simply remarkable. I am a really big Daft Punk fan, owning every single one of their albums, & I can safely say you are not making a mistakein buying this.
I first saw thisin the cinema, & as it was out on DVD, decided to show it to some of my friends; they all loved it, even if they weren’t fans of Daft Punk. BUY THIS NOW!!!
