poor - By: Mr. Russell C. Witheyman, 15 Jul 2010
Don't believe the good reviews for this film!!!!!!!!!!! Considering this was made by the team that brought you the classics of Re-animator & From Beyond,Dagon isn't a patch on those brilliant films. Now i know nothing of the original HP Lovecraft story but i'm guessing it was much better than this drivel. About 80% of the movie consists of a guy running away from zombie-esq creatures..thats about it really! Lot's of running away round various buildings & outside streets..very little else happens till about 10 mins before the end! on top of that the gore is virtually non existent, the acting terrible & cgi..shockingly bad (even for a low budget film) The film is actually a spanish production using a mixture of american, english & spanish actors, both Yuzna & Gordon couldn't find financing for this & Beyond Re-animator (which is miles better than this)in the U.S so agreed a deal with various spanish financings.

If like me you thought the pairing of yuzna & Gordon would deliver another classic horror then you'll be disappointed. If you set your sights very low then you may get something out of Dagon..al i got was 1hr 30 mins of my life i'll never get back!
Truly creepy! - By: Don Duncan, 05 Jun 2010
There's no pointin re-telling the scenario of the movie since it's already been reviewed several times. I would like to say that "Dagon" is a Super Creepy movie with loads of atmosphere. Very haunting. It has some good twists & turns. I love that you can't predict it at every turn.

I watched the movie over five years ago & it's really stayed with me. I think it's a must-see for all horror fans. There are so few really good horror films & this one is truly Good. It keeps you glued to the set. Very engrossing. I couldn't get up while I was watching it because it just kept goingin every direction & kept me guessing.

I think this is one of those films you don't just walk away from & forget. It gets inside your head & stays there. If you have an opportunity to see it, See it!
Ftagn-alicious Horror - By: Mr. T. Gettins, 02 May 2010
Lovecraft fans, this is for you.

This is quite simply the most brilliantly achieved Mythos film I have seen. From its killer opening sequence to its horrifying, tar-slicked end, this film grabs you by the swim-bladder & never lets go.

'Dagon' shows the effect of its low, low budgetin places: it must have cost a pittance to make. But the makers used their money well. Check out the lovingly carved 'gold' objects fished from the sea, the zero-budget rain-slicked hovels, the impressive Cthulhunoid score - & the monsters. Oh my, the monsters.

Director Stuart Gordon understands that the best possible CGI is the one going onin our heads, & does a great job filling the streets of the cursed spanish village of Limboca with Lovecraft's goggle-eyed 'Innsmouth-folk'. But he adds what Lovecraft could not - their voices: which run the gamut from squishy, gurgling squid to bizarrely-apt Flipper the Dolphin.

The geekish hero of 'Dagon' flees Limboca's Sea World denizens, stumbling from terrifying chase scene to terrying chase scene - but the film doesn't forget to take a breath & tell its story. 'Silent Hill' please note - THIS is how you do exposition. The show-stealing Franciso Rabal reveals why the streets of Limboca are filled with foot-dragging mutos. And the delectable Macarena Gomez (as the scarey-eyed Uxia, Priestess of Dagon) is the film's loaded pistol. She is Limboca's terrible, & beautiful secret, prefigured from the start & revealed at the end. 'Dagon' brings plenty of horror, but Uxia will both reconcile you to that horror & make you seriously consider growing gills.

Lastly:in Dagon we get that rarest of film commodities: a true Lovecraftian ending. No spoilers, but the master himself would have approved of this one.
Not what I was expecting. - By: Bakuryuu Tyranno, 10 Dec 2009
Given that this movie is based on some of H.P. Lovecraft's stories I'd expect it to rely on atmosphere & such. Actually I thought the earlier scenes that did rely on atmosphere were better than what came afterwards.

The "deep ones" of this movie have been given tentacles & such; their appearances here makes me think of Cthulhu more than Dagon.

What it does havein common with H.P Lovecraft stories though is the backstory of the "deep ones", minus the involvement of Hydra & Cthulhu, which makes sense, since this movie is known as "Dagon" & not "Dagon, Hydra & Cthulhu"

But for what it is its pretty good. A few plot developments were surprising. I just don't think people expecting it to be particularly faithful to its source material would be satisfied.
Lovecraft would be proud - By: Peter J. Hodgson, 11 Feb 2009
As straight to DVD fair, this movie isnt bad at all. Stuart Gordon has done a good job here as he did with Reanimator, Castle Freak, From Beyond capturing the timeless terror Lovecraft concieved backin the 1930's. While this film lacks the correct setting of Innsmouth & a few other things it does draw you in. The CGI is kept at a safe min here, I dont believe its used until you briefly see the creature. The gore could have done with a less is more approach by then it wouldnt be a Stuart Gordon film without it.
