Charming but not wonderful - By: Junius, 09 Jul 2010
This seems a more pedestrian version of the earlier film, but it is still full of charm & optimism. Warbucks seems to melt from hard hearted businessman rather too quickly.
One thing though, is that the producers seem to be either ignorant or want to rewrite history isin making Warbuck's secretary black. This isin the 1930s when segregation was rife & black peoplein the USA tended to be servants not highly confidential secretaries to billionaires & potential marriage partners!
That gripe apart, this is a good film & pleasant to watch, especially for young children.
Good - but not as good as the original! - By: A. Mahoney, 01 Jun 2010
I saw the original when it came outin the cinema - I was about 12 (can't believe that was 28 years ago!!!). Bought this version as my 9 year old daughter had seen the original but had also seen clips of this on YouTube. We both unanimously agree that the original is definitely the best. Mind you, if you haven't watched the original you will probably enjoy this - as with most Disney films.
Just what was needed! - By: R. Card, 08 Mar 2010
We already have the "Big-Screen" version & my daughter who is a HUGE fan of Annie just HAD to have this version, as well as both CD's, having watched 10 min clips ad nauseum on You Tube! Now very happy she can watch them all joined together. Kathy Bates is very good too!
Annie - By: musical crazy., 06 Oct 2009
I was a bit disapointed when I realised I hadnt ordered the original which was what I had wanted. After watching this excellent re-make with my two daughters 4 & 7 I thought it was fantastic, all the charm of the original but not as gritty which was even better for the girls. I would definately recommend it.
Better than the early 80's version (by a mile) - By: D. Glancy, 22 Feb 2009
Totally superior to the bloated, hammy (Tim Curry/Albert Finney!)1981 version.
It has better casting, singing, acting, choreography, storytelling, sets.
The 1981 version palesin comparison
