Appalling - By: Sally Wilton, 11 Aug 2008
Aside from this not being very funny or even mildly interesting the film is a prime example of how certain people - probably members of the male sex, would still like to believe than an old, fat, ugly man can be a 'babe magnet' purely because he has a bid wad (of cash).

At the begining a wheezing, viagra popping Nicholson dates a beautiful girl at least 35 years younger than himself, not because he is interestedin a serious relationship, can offer her love, support & affection on an equal footing to her, or, is even vaguely kindin any way but just as a bit of funin the bedroom. It is so disgusting it doesnt even bear thinking about. Mother Diane Keaton is fashionably cool about finding this balding, sweaty tub of lard waddling aboutin her kitchen, about to grope her gorgeous daughter & soon falls for him herself despite having Keanu Reeves the devestatingly handsome young doctor waitingin the wings for her. A story line that requires everyone watching to suspend belief completely.

Another particularly stupid bit is the aside regarding the French restaurantin Paris 'Behind the Palais Royale' - you know the one! where they serve the 'best roast chickenin the world' The writer's lack of imagination regarding French haute cuisine is amazing. I dont even think any French Restaurant would put such a simple dish on a menu. She must have been thinking of one of those rotisserie shops, you seein downtown areas.

Allin all a pretty poor effort.

Ticks all the boxes - By: S Sage, 26 Mar 2008
I loved this film. It has all the essential pre-requisites of a great romantic comedy: Genuine comedy, witty dialogue, interesting, well-acted leading roles, sexual chemistry & emotional tenderness, plot complications, a fabulous feel-good factor & beautiful locations. Erica's house is a dream & Paris is just dreamy. The film combines these great ingredients into a perfect rom-com, like curling up on your sofa, barefootin your pyjamas & digging into a late-night chocolate fudge dessert.

Definitely a keeper that you can enjoy over & over.
A Great Feel Good Movie. - By: Penelope, 15 Jan 2008
Don't question the agenda of a Jack Nicholson fan, because I am wholly aware that without his presence this film would fail to light my fire! Okay so Jack Nicholson's not your usual leading man material, & yes I can understand why many women are mind boggled by Diane Keaton's decision to choose him over the lovely Keanu Reevesin `Something's Gotta Give'. But the simple fact of the matter remains that Nicholson exudes a devilish charm & infectious charisma unparalleled by any other actor as far as I am concerned, & that is why Keaton chooses him over the perhaps more aesthetically pleasing, but ultimately dull Reeves. I really enjoyed this movie, perhaps simply because Nicholson is fantastic. `Something's Gotta Give' is was it is, a feel good romance between two people of a certain age, one of whom had never considered the idea of being with a woman beyond the age of 25, until he met the lovely Diane Keaton, who it has to be said looks fantasticin this film. This is a great afternoon movie to sit back & chill out with, touching, funny, & undemanding. This is one for those times when you just want a little light entertainment & a whole lot of Jack!
A matter of personal taste - By: Janet D, 03 Jan 2008
I watched this film some years back, & it stuck it my memory as one to watch again. I have mixed feelings with regards to Jack Nicholson & tended to refrain from watching Diane Keaton's films as many were with Woody Allen, who I cannot stand! So WHY was this film so memorable, to me?

Well, the characters (as others have pointed out) were somewhat stereotyped, but is this necessarily a faultin the plot? Aren't all of us,in some way, stereotypical, eitherin our personalities, lifestyles or relationships? The charm of this film is - perhaps -in the stereotyping elements,in that we are able to relate to the characters & their emotional mishaps & feel that, some how, there is hope for us all?

I found the plot, whilst not being mind-bogglingly complex, to contain a few twists that held my attention throughout, (though I would have probably chosen Mr. Reeves over Mr. Nicholson any day - on the other hand, would I really want to be with a man who was prettier than me?) & found Ms. Keaton's romantic involvement with Mr. Reeves believable as her character was a charming understatement of a maturely attractive & sensual woman.

I have bought 2 copies of this film; one is for my own library & one is for my parents. They also have seen this film already & wanted to watch it again; this, for my father, is a rare occurrence for anything not featuring either football or John Wayne!

This film leaves you with a 'feel good' factor, so unlike many nowadays that are filled with futuristic doom & gloom, or tales of murderous betrayal & revenge. Watch it for what it is - an enjoyable film.
Old actors getting together! - By: Ms. R. Johnson, 13 Nov 2007
This is a classic romantic comedy with three (I'll let you decide) of America's great thespians. He, Jack Nicholson IS a Jack the Lad & he's having a fling with Diane Keaton's daughter, add Frances McDormand as Keaton's sister & throw Keanu Reevesin for the eye candy, what is there not to like? It funny & spot on, the ending is a little weak but hey, this is Hollywood.
