nice, but could be nicer - By: , 25 Aug 2004
brace yourself brits, this is the best nightmare box set were gonna get! my advice to you is buy this then buy new nightmare, which is really cool!
nightmare on elm street: the first & probably the best one. dvd is not to shabby, one commentary featuring wes craven, john saxon & heather langenkamp & a trailer... at least its got more than the others! look out for johnny deepin his first role.
freddys revenge: this is poor, avoid this like the plauge. it makes no sence & the acting is below standard. poor.
dream warriors: the only film that comes close to the orginal. is almost my favourite one. theres two reasons why this one is good, nancy returns & wes craven co wrote it. when they team up, the film just seems to work. & "this is prime time b*tch" is just a classic! a trailer & a brilliant music video are on the dvd.
dream master: bit pants, but not that bad. introduces us to alice & dan. freddy is quite funnyin this film & overall the film works. a trailer & cast & crew stuff (big whop!)
dream child: this film doesnt really explain how freddy comes back & for that reason i didnt like it that much. its not to bad though. remember the kidin jurassic park who calls the velocorapter a 'big turkey'? he plays alice's kidin this film! a trailer & 2 appaluing rap videos are on the dvd. there worth watching for how bad they are!
freddys dead: i enjoyed this. a good homage to the films & a nice ending. although we dont get the 3d version so it does look a bit pants. but the thing that annoyed me the most was there are NO special features! nothing! whats all that about?! look out for Breckin Meyerin an early role (hes playing jonin the new garfield movie). wes craven apperantly didnt like this film & what they did to freddy, hence new nightmare!
allin all, its not to bad. the films are good for horror fans & if you havent seen these, i suggest you do! i would have given it 5 stars but the lack of features annoyed me. we want documentaires & commentaries, we'll never watch them but at least wed have the option!
buy this, its the best were gonna get! unless you have a region one player, i suggest you get the american one!
Quite good, although could be better - By: , 21 Aug 2004
This set contains 6 discs - the first 6 Elm Street films.
Nightmare On Elm Street - a classic film, both unnerving & entertaining. Introduces us to Freddy Krueger. He terrorises teenagersin their dreams. Good performances & a scary movie.
Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge - Freddy attacks a new teenager & uses his body to move from the dreamworld into the real world. Hated by fans, but isn't too awful. Keeps Freddy scary & has some homoerotic overtones.
Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors - one of the bestin the series. Nancy from the original returns to help kidsin a hospital who dream of Freddy. Has a memorable Freddy moment, the legendary TV death. Entertaining, but not very scary. Firstin mini "Dream Trilogy".
Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master - secondin "Dream Trilogy". Doesn't have much of a plot & Freddy is not scary. Easily the worstin the series. Freddy just wisecracks & the characters are underdeveloped.
Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child - lastin "Dream Trilogy". Gives us insight into Freddy's past. An unborn child is possesed by Freddy. Freddy becomes a total jokein this film, but is it somewhat scarier than #4.
Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare - the last filmin this set. Freddy's daughter tries to stop him once & for all. Pays homages to some past moments, but is not scary at all. This set does not have the 3D ending, so it looks horrible. No extras on this disc which is criminal.
This box set is a good purchase for a Freddy fan, but New Nightmare & Freddy Vs Jason are missing (the latter can be understood, but the former's absence is unforgivable). Nicwely presented, although #6 feels "tacked on" as a set similar to this was released previously.
