I LOOOOOOOVE this film! - By: MadelineJ, 22 Aug 2007
Drop dead fred is an absolutly fantastic film. I can't even remember how i heard about it - i was born a year after it was even released - but whatever it was that sparked an interest only happened recently. I read lots of reveiws without having seen more than half anf hour of the film & found them all to be dissapointing, all pointing out the flaws & negatives - which, having bought it & now looking back, i cant seem to findin this film.
The hilarious portrayal of Fred by Rik Mayall was fantastic - both brilliantly funny & also amazingly touching when it's needed. Pheobe Cates hits the character of Lizzie perfectly & just brings the tone of the film into something great. And you really have to have a respect for any actor who can keep a straight face when Rik Mayall is hopping about infront of them :o)
I do have something...not a problem...but perhaps a hinderance, i have spotted with this film. You have to have some sort of connecion with being a child...you have to be able to embrace how fun this film is & too many people, it seems, are so focused on how things should be & how things arein their reality that they cant just let go & love the humour & lovein this film! I feel that even though the reception of this film seemed to bomb, for anyone who felt it as it was supposed to have been seen they will always hold thias film dear to them.
If you are a fan of Rik, if you like to laugh or if you think you still have the spark left that is echoedin this film then you NEED to see it! And if you dont you should see it anyway & it might help bring it back. There is a very good chance you'll end up fallingin love with this film just as i have.x

The most funniest film I have seen in my life... - By: Oliver Waldron, 29 Jul 2007
... I was going to put 10/10 but they don't have it. This is the most funniest film ever & I think Rik Mayall is a GREAT comedian. "Death breath... she killed me with the death breath" or "What a pile of s***!" Very funny! I think you should buy this film.
Very Original: A True Classic - By: Andrew D. Scobie, 25 Apr 2007
I think it can be safely said that Drop Dead Fred is a true classic piece of comedy. For those who are fans of 'Bottom' & 'Guest House Paradiso' you will not be disapointed by Mayall's portrayal of Phobe Cates' imaginary Friend.
At the start of the film, Elizabeth is a court reporter whoin one day loses her husband, her car & her job. Things go from bad to worse when she returns home to find her dominating & ruthless Mother waiting on her. Elizabeth is emotionally overpowered by her Mother & taken back to her Mother's restrictive house. Whilst looking through her old belongings Elizabeth stumbles upon an old jackin the box. The box is unsealed & Drop Dead Fred her childhood imaginary friend returns to her life. Fred is unable to leave until she is happy, Elizabeth must struggle with Fred's hillarious yet dangerous antics, whilst trying to rebuild her shattered life.
The plot combined with Rick Mayall's comedy genius make Drop Dead Fred a true classic.
Did you have an invisible friend? - By: B. Chandler, 02 Feb 2006
There is a timein ones life when they arein need or at least are open to the concept of an invisible friend. However at a certain age this becomes an absurd idea & therefore the friend must leave. The concept has been put forthin many movies such as “The Curse of the Cat People” (1944), & books such as “Peter Pan” or “Mimsy Were the Borogroves” by Henry Kuttner & C.L. Moor,
which depicts a child’s mindset as alien to those of humans.

Elizabeth As a child (Ashley Peldon) had her share of problems as a friend & also had her own supposedly imaginary-friend “Drop Dead Fred” (Rik Mayall). Of whom she was supposed to outgrow. She had a little help from her mother who locked Fred awayin a Jack-in-the-box.
Now Elizabeth (Phoebe Cates) is once again having problems with a recent divorce along with many other disasters. She makes the strategic error of moving back home. She finds where Fred is confined & pretends to frees him; guess who she finds out is not imaginary & is still waiting as if time had not passed at all. This happens when one goes home again. Now Fred is appalled to find that Snot Face is all grown up & that she even did it like the pigeons. How ever Fred is just as mischievous, ornery, & destructive as ever.
It is up to the two codependent entities to help free each other from a static situation; Liz needs to grow up & Fred needs to move on the next kid. In the process Elizabeth meats a girl Natalie (Kelly Benson), that seems to be annoying the babysitter. And she claims it was “You know who”.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will Elizabeth finally take control of her life & out grow the need for Fred?
If so will she ever see him again?
The movie is worth it on different levels or diffident angles. We have the fun of the interacting & antics of Fred, Elisabeth & boogers. There is a true underlying psychological story that includes a trip through ones mind. And Phoebe is almost too cute & can make you forget what you are watching.
"I forgot to give you something!"
