I originally saw the recent movie, & being a fan of the actors, thought it was great. I then went on to study it for my A-level Media Studies coursework. To aidin my research, I found the first series of the original series cheap, but only really watched the pilot episode & didn't really take much notice.
It was about 6 months when I found it at the back of my DVD cupboard & me & my twin sister thought we might as well watch it, as we knew it was really popular backin the day. And our Mum & Dad remembered & loved it!

We both became instantly addicted to it, working our way through the first series, & are currently halfway through the second series, & are very much looking forward to getting the third & fourth!
The on-screen chemistry between Soul & Glaser is superb, & the characters such as Huggy Bear & Dobey are...just...well fantastic.
The second series seems to emphasise more on the friendship aspect of the partnership, as is shownin the end scene of the opening credits, but the storylines are just as good & the writing & attention to detail is excellent.
The car is so spiggin' cool.

The whole show is so refreshing to watch, as a lot of the stuff they do would not be allowed today, such as mild sexual harrassmentin the workplace & using physical violence, but not going over the top unlike many shows today. They don't do programmes like this anymore!

Forget the new starsky & hutch movie with messers Stiller & Owen. Nothing can compare to the genius of Paul Michael Glaser & David Soul. I grew up watching those two & I still love em today.They have a chemistry on screen that is just timeless.
Captain Dobey is sooo grumpy, but he,s great, & Huggy too.
Ilove it & I don,t think I,ll ever grow out of em, don,t want to either. Forget the new movie with the fake ones, watch the real thing with Paul & David.Brilliant.***********

Starsky and Hutch - The ORIGINAL and the BEST - By: , 22 Feb 2005
I wasnt around when the original series first aired, & really only got into Starsky & Hutch watching re-runs on Granada Plus. Whats not to love about this program, there is action, drama, comedy, angst, a little romance, two of the best looking screen cops ever & the most WONDERFUL carin creation!!

The second series is definately my favorite. PMG & DS are so at ease with each other, & every movement, every line seems effortless, you forget that this is a scripted TV show, it just seems like real life....only a lot more exciting..

And sure its the late 70's & the clothes & hair are dated now, but its real action, no computers or forensics, just two guys taking on the world..its everyone's dream i think!!

And of course, probably the main reason i love Starsky & Hutch so much is their fantastic on screen (and off) relationship..its buddy TV at its best & i love it!!

My favorite episodes have to be Bust Amboy, Little Girl Lost & of course as a DS fan, the Psychic. We see the boysin a variety of different rolesin Season two, theres a lot more angst, & a lot more interaction...its just wonderful...

I loved Starsky & Hutch when I was growing up so I re-visited it with some trepidation incase I found my childhood favourite to be horribly naff - I needn't have worried though, it is still as amusing & thrilling as I remember.

Starsky & Hutch are two detectivesin a grimy inner city populated with seedy characters. It is heavy on the action - our heroes are more than happy to run around waving guns, jump in/out/over cars (why walk around the famous red & white Gran Torino when you can roll over the bonnet, right?), crash through empty cardboard boxesin alleyways & get heavy handed with the low-life. They are tough & they (almost) always get the bad guys with their own, no nonsense, approach to law enforcement.

But this series (and this seasonin particular) has much more to offer than just action.

The makers & actors have said that this is a show about a deep platonic friendship between two men who are cops and, for me, it is this relationship that makes this show better than anythingin the genre that came before or after. Glaser & Soul have incredible chemistry & are utterly convincing as best friends - they are easy together, they bicker, they joke, they are bluntly honest & they are affectionate & very tactile. Much of the humour comes from this relationship but it also helps to sell the drama.

The stories themselves are good (although many of them have been recycledin other shows since) & the casting often throws up familiar faces before they were famous. It is fun to see our heroes working undercover (there are several such episodesin this season) but they are at their very best fighting crime on their own beat, backing each other up, talking to the incomparable Huggy Bear & driving Captain Dolby mad. There are several of the very best episodes of the entire seriesin this collection.

Of course, it is looking a little dated: the 70s clothes (although they look quite good, for the most part - except for the cravats...); the lack of IT/Mobile telephones and; the fact that our heroes think nothing of indulgingin a little sexual harrassmentin the workplace or openly leering at womenin general. To be fair the last two are very much a product of the time & are done with such good humour & lack of malice that it is difficult to be offended. The passage of time has not diminished the stories or the acting & you soon stop noticing the 70s quirks.

There are no extras but who cares? This is the season that got the balance between gritty storylines & humour spot on & is an absolute must for anyone who remembers the series fondly & is a good place to start if you've never really watched Starsky & Hutch before.
