Great German archivist - By: , 19 Jan 2006
Wolfgang's presciencein beingin the right place at the right time is somewhat marred by the quality, which is sometimes appalling. Nevertheless an enjoyable documentary for those who love the music of the era.
For a true flavour of England post-punk I would recommend 'Rough Cut & Ready Dubbed' which is better at nailing the all pervading sense of impending violence & also contains a healthy dose of British humour.
A brilliant evokation of the London punk scene in late 77 - By: nigeyb, 06 Oct 2005
Just watched this beauty. Does a brilliant job of evoking the London punk scenein late 77. Some of the idealism lives on. Bands springing up all over the place. Still lots of diversity & enthusiasm but also quite a bit of cynicism (Roadent), pretensious nonsense (Magenta Divine - I think), enigmatic comments (Vic Goddard), downright aggression (Jean Jacques Burnell) & loads of great footage. Brilliant & essential. Evokes the era wonderfully. For anyone who missed it read the Andy Blade book & then watch this - or the other way round if you like. That was the thing we called the punk rock. In a nutshell. Grim, grubby, wonderful & forever fascinating. We'll not see its like again, & I suppose that's why we still pick over the bones. Again & again. Recommended.
Raw Rebellion Raw Power Pure Punk - By: ian james randall, 20 Jan 2002
Intresting documentary style anology of Punkin the early days of Punk before commercialisation & selling out. This is filmed by a German who went to London to see what this concept of music & rebellion(punk)was all about. It sets the scence about how & why Punk took the nation by storm. There is some excellent footage of bands that many people will not have seen before & some intresting interviews.I would have preferred more music but this apart this film gives a real insight into life & Punkin London in1977/8.
