![]() Comparing Prices... Customer ReviewsMore BBC goodness... - By: B. J. Whitehouse, 28 Jun 2006![]() Messiah 1 & 2. Such an interesting offering from the BBC & Paramount. It's really well written, well acted & well shot. The international market ensured there was a need for London buses & a few famous landmarks to denote place. One of it's failings is the communication of time/season. In the Boris Starling book (incidently the author makes an appearence as Bartholomew) there is an acute sense of seasonal change & the oppressive heat of a summerin London- it's a minor gripe. It's such a clever, taut filmic style BBC series. Another great British series - By: cazmac, 03 Mar 2006 ![]() I bought this DVD without having seen it or knowing a great deal about it other than the reviews I read on Amazon. It is simply another brilliant British crime/drama series & am again grateful that such intelligent product exists amongst such worldwide garbage that is screened these days. Ken Stott et al are totally believablein their roles & the decision to make his wife deaf gives the relationship he has professionally & personally much more scope & range. This is just a great, intelligent & very interesting series & I am very happy that I bought it. It has never screened here & I just hope it is made available for it to be soin the future. Hurry up with series 3&4 please as I need to see more of this series as the lack of integrityin alot of what is screened on tv these days is chokingly bad!! Messiah 1 - Absolutely Fantastic Drama! - By: John Challen, 11 Nov 2005 ![]() I missed Messiah 1 when it first came out on TV, but really enjoyed the subsequent series. This review refers to an Amazon rental, so I don't have the beef about the rip-off release that other reviewers have. The storyline isin the best traditions of the very best the BBC can offer, & the twists & turns that develop are enthralling as the gruesome murders unfold & continue. Ken Scott is superb as the disturbed CI Red Metcalf, supported by a who's who of big TV names (Edward Woodward, Gillian Taylforth et al). I for one did not guess the real serial killer until the unveiling. The production standards are very high for a programme made for TV, & equal to most general release movies - decomposing bodies, gruesome crucifictions, severed heads etc are all convincing. I would give this 6 stars if I could, & can't wait to watch Messiah 2 - the next disc on my Amazon rental list! Watch it - you won't be disappointed. Fantastic! - By: Michael Blake, 07 Sep 2005 ![]() what an unbelievably good series, after being converted to the Messiah series by friends justin time for the fourth series recently shown on BBC television. It was a must to go to Amazon & pick up series one & two. No plot give always & I will recommend going back & watching it all over again. Not to say its hard to follow, but some of the subtle scripting works on so many levels once you know who it is perpetrating the murders. Great, Rent it now! riveting - By: E. Lowe, 25 Oct 2004 ![]() I first watched messiah when it came out on the BBC a few years ago. I loved it & that is what compelled me to buy the dvds when they were released. Messiah 1 was on 1 dvd & messiah 2 was on another. I was disapointed however to find that Messiah wasin 2 parts on the dvd like it was on telly. Half way through the programme the credits started to roll & a minute later the second half started. I couldn't see why the BBC would spend the money on releasing the dvd when they weren't even going to make it into a full length drama. That aside, the acting is fantastic, especially from Ken Stott who played Red Metcalfe. I finale is equally as wonderful. There are alot of big namesin it but with rather small parts. Gillian Taylforth for example played Duncans ex wife & we proberly see her 4 timesin all. The special effects were equally fantastic, very realistic & very gory! The first disc also contains the makeing of messiah with make very interesting viewing. The deleted scenes that you can watch are of very poor quality, similar quality to an old video. If you havn't watched it then it's definately a must.
