smart but exaggerated look at teen stereotypes - By: Stampy, 19 Nov 2008
Raisedin Africa, Cady (Lohan) finds life difficult when she moves to a high schoolin America & meets Regina George (McAdams), leader of the Plastics.

Stereotypes can often be one of those negative elementsin films which bring the rating down because of the predictability. They are based along the rules writtenin modern media. Despite the copycat references to other school & society figures, the teensin this picture are so over stereotyped that it works up a wonderful treat.

Lindsey Lohan (The Parent Trap) stars as central character Cady & gives an obvious performance as the new girl. She does look the part which makes the plot somewhat believable even if we have to follow her around all the time.

Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) stars as head Plastic Regina George, the girl everyone wants to be like. Attractive, intelligent & domineering she is the epitome of the schoolyard. Juxtaposed with gossip queen Lacey Chabert & dumb Amanda Seyfried & you have a great collection of stereotypes that are amusing.

Despite the strong female presencein this comedy drama, it is the male cast who deliver the most laughs. The typical gay character Damien packs a great punch & watch out for leader of the Mathematics team Kevin Gnapoor (Rajiv Surendra) who is so beautifully funny that it is almost untrue. When you see him rapping on stage you will be laughing for the rest of the week.

Heads will turn away when the formulaic plot is staring youin the face. New girl at a new school who can't fitin & fancies the one guy she can't have etc. The formula is there for a head rolling bore but be patient as when we meet the plastics, the dynamic & flow of the narrative changes dramatically.

There is a dreadful obvious finish but the conventional plot remains consistent & keeps the feet firmly placed on the ground.

Cady goes undercover to make Regina's life a living nightmare & the wearing down of the lead Plastic is very well scripted with some tasty jokes & slapstick humour. This differs slightly from the underlining convention of modern day teen films.

Unlike modern day films, there is little reference to modern media, which makes it a timeless watch.

Based on the factual advice book, this is a wonderful, if slightly over exaggerated, depiction of stereotypes. Despite the convention of the plot, Mean Girls is ultimately enjoyable with a great collection of characters that is worth viewing

OMG OMG OMG - By: Midnight, 09 Sep 2008
This film was the best thing I had ever saw!!! I bought the DVD without ever actually seeing it & now I can't get enough of it! And even though its a Chick Flick, I know boys who like it!
Cady was home-schooledin Africa until she was 16 when she was suddenly upped & moved to an American high-school. Now she has to cope with the worst girlsin the school, cliques, a boy she can't have & 'the rules of femminism'.
An amazing film of Cady's ups & down through-out a year at high-school, & how she changed it forever!

PS. The soundtrack is just as FAB as the film & after watching the film I had to get the music as well!
Classic teen film with dark overtones - By: Matt_K, 14 Apr 2008
I was really surprised by this film. It's packaged like a chick flick, but really has a lot morein common with the likes of "Clueless", "Bring It On", even "Heathers". If you like those, you should defintely check this out. Like "Heathers", this film really goes into the tribal torment of high school, where all anyone seems to want is to fitin & be liked by the popular people (whoin fact are loathed by everyone). Loved it.
TEENAGE CHICK FLICK!!!!!!! OK FOR A NIGHT IN!!!!!!! - By: S. Arden, 13 Apr 2008
This movie is about a new girl who has been home schooledin Africa & is now moved to America Highschool where the trouble begins as she meets the Queen B's who act like they own the School & world!!!!!!!!
Cady (Linsay) is now eating lunch with them, & shopping with them & chatting with them & going around their houses!!! Now an inoccent sweet teenager is beginning to act like a bratty teenagers obsessed with her appearance & maycup & clothes. She is now totally popular & plans to keep it that way with all the parties behind her parents backs & the bitchy ness. She ended up this way because with her pervious friends they had planned to ruin the girls lives as they had done very mean & nasty things they had done & they persauded Cady too. Cady also has a love life & it is the Sping Fling coming up & she wants to go with this really cool guy can she change back!!!!!!
See it & you'lllove it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great for a girly night in! - By: L. Felthouse, 28 Dec 2007
Mean Girls stars Lindsey Lohan as Cady Heron, a clueless teenager who's been brought upin the African jungle by her zoologist parents, meaning she's never attended high school. Until now. Thrownin at the deep end, she has to quickly learn the 'rules' of high school; where to sit, what to do, who to talk to, who not to talk to... poor Cady ends up eating her lunchin the toilets on more than one occasion.

However, two friendly 'outcasts' soon take her under their wing & help her acclimatise to school life. They point out all the different cliques & warn her away from the Plastics - three pretty, popular, & truly evil girls. Cady soon runs into trouble, though, when the 'Queen Bee' of the Plastics, Regina George, spots her & asks her to sit with them. Regina then decides to befriend Cady. Preferring to be with her 'outcast' friends, Cady isn't sure. But after explaining to Janis & Damian, the three of them decide Cady should pretend to be one of the Plasticsin order to discover all their deepest darkest secrets, & bring them down from the inside, punishing them for the torture they've inflicted on their fellow students over the years.

Totally the opposite of the bitchy, air-headed & self-obsessed Plastics, Cady struggles to fitin with them, but tries her best. She is excellingin her classes, particularly Mathematics - her favourite. But there is a distractionin that particular class -in the shape of the gorgeous Aaron Samuels, who also happens to be Regina's ex-boyfriend. Warned off Aaron by Plastic #2, Gretchen, Cady tries to hide her attraction. But soon enough, Regina finds out about her crush on Aaron & encourages Cady to 'go for it' with him - only then to start dating him again & waving the factin Cady's face. Cady now knows how truly evil Regina can be, & resolves to bring her status down, with help from her true friends. Butin trying to bring down the Plastics, Cady unwittingly becomes one herself.

A real chick-flick,in the same league as Clueless & similar American comedies, Mean Girls will really make you gigglein places, & also emphathise with many of the characters. This is a feel-good film as all comes rightin the end & there truly is a moral to the story, which is often lackingin modern films.

Overall, not half bad. I didn't think it was as good as Clueless, but still definitely worth picking up on DVD for a girly night in.
