Good information = soothing, calming - By: Jill, 17 Dec 2008
1/2 way through this DVD I realised I had relaxed considerablyin my anticipation of labor. Yes, the clothes are dated - so are the robes of Aristotle - but the information is not. Betty Parsons looks at childbirth from a calm, realistic & assured point of view & through her attitude the viewer is calmed & reassured. This DVD is a gem & I am so glad I found it!!
A big thumbs up!! - By: Ms. Candida Stedman, 27 Aug 2007
Despite this being very dated, the information given is very valuable. The clothes & the manner maybe dated (1990)but the act of giving birth has not changed. Just treat the rest as entertainment because her knowledge actually makes a lot of sense. I have got many books & feel this information give this little bit extra. Not only are you talked through each specific birthing stage you are told what is mechanically happening to your body, how to deal with it & what you should be doing i.e to do with pain or actually pusing the baby out. It even tell syou how to push the baby out. There are no real birth shots which I think is a plus (because this process is scary enough without seeing that) It does give you a very specific idea of what & how your body is going to achieve the purpose. A wholly positive aspect which I find is difficult to find.
Very Useful - By: Shandy, 09 Feb 2007
We've just watched the DVD, & we're still not parents yet...
We've got the recommended books, been to antenatal, but still wanted more. This DVD was exactly what we were looking for - practical clear techniques for breathing, relaxation & delivery - things that were not adequately covered at our local antenatal class.
It is a bit dated (1990 ish), & the sound a little muffled. The diagrams could be clearer, but they are still very helpful & are pretty well explained.
There was no real discussion on medical pain relief (epidural/gas-air, etc.) - This info is readily availablein most books. You will not see a birth taking placein this DVD.
Apparently, the presenter Betty Parsons has an MBE, & has advised the Royal family, including The Queen, on birth.
The only reason I did not give this a 5/5 is because it is a bit dated & the editing is somewhat wooden. It's also fairly slow getting going.
We watched itin two parts, as the whole DVD is tough to get throughin one go.
Betty's Great !!! - By: Sam, 20 Jul 2006
We found the informationin the DVD to be extremely useful. The breathing & relaxation techniques were what got us through labour. While all the outfits were very floral, the information presented was invaluable.
Disappointed - By: , 03 Apr 2006
Its very 1970's / 1980's & somewhat out of date so we were quite disappointed. Some of the info is useful & well explained without the use of modern day graphics & images. Do not take partin the relaxing & breathing exercisesin the middle of the DVD as it makes it impossible to stay awake for the rest of it - especially if you are pregnant!
