clichés all round. - By: Alias Grace, 28 Jan 2007
This is a 'gay' movie for straight people. One of those one's that reminds everyone 'we're people too'. The two main characters are women so we can accept them being drag queens more than if they were men. The gay characters infuriated me. Shallow, vapid, air-heads who can decorate fabulously, darling. All the usual clichés were there. One of the gay guys standsin drag looking ridiculous & says to his straight brother 'you have to accept the parts of me that make you feel sick to your stomach'. Its painful viewing.
It is a funny camp movie but don't be expecting anything more. You won't find it.
The truth is out there ! - By: fivestarfrankie, 27 Dec 2006
This film is as camp as a very, very long row of tents !
It's also a great feel good movie crafted to perfection
There is nothing else worth saying IMHO except make the time to watch it - you'll be glad you did !
It's like Romy and Michelle...with songs! - By: S. J. Pinkus, 19 Apr 2006
Connie & Carla is a camp rhapsody of song, make-up, & drag. The leading ladiesin this film have truly outstanding musical voices, & enough energy to lift anyone's spirits after a long day at work. I recommend you make yourself some popcorn, take out a bottle of wine, slip into something comfortable, & then sit down to an hour & twenty minutes of pure entertainment. The film followsin the footsteps of camp classics like Romy & Michelle & Sister Act, & is packed with all the ingredients you would expect to findin a light-hearted all-American comedy: the not-so-scary gangsters, the hazardous road-trip, the blossoming romance, the occasional melodrama, singing, dancing, & not forgetting - did I already mention them? - drag queens. As Connie & Carla go on the run after witnessing a mob killing, they find sanctuaryin a drag club (don't we all). In need of a job, & desperate not to be hunted down by the bad guys, they audition for a drag show...and the rest, as they say, is hysterical. The DVD has some juicy extras, including some deleted scenes & commentary. I always enjoy a good bit of camp, but maybe that says more about me than the film...? Happy viewing!
