decent popcorn rubbish - By: martin thomas, 07 Jun 2008
the acting is solid & the action well staged but the rapid fire visuals soon grate & its 30 minets too long

In my opinion this is definitely one of Denzel Washington's best films & shows a real story for the characters involved. Excellent cast of actors too with Micky Rourke & Christopher Walken making a good contribution. The subject is a pretty rough one when considering what is happeningin South America at the moment with so many people being kidnapped for large ransoms, especially the background information showing that some aren't fortunate enough to be foundin time. A great addition to anyone's dvd collection.

Disappointing... - By: Garry Williams, 02 Apr 2008
Had high hopes for this one, but unfortunately, can only rate it an average thriller. An intelligent script. Good performances all round - Denzel's great (as usual), Christopher Walken is excellent (again, as usual), & young Dakota Fanning will have an Oscar by the time she's a teenager. So what went wrong? Well, a few things, but to keep this short, I'll just point the waggly finger at one or two possible reasons. Firstly, the downbeat ending - I know what Director Tony Scott's trying to say here, & bravo, but this just won't sit right with viewers brought up with divine retributionin the styles of Arnie, Sly, & Bruce. Secondly, the 'violence'. Pretty much all implied - very little gets into frame, so don't go expecting some Tarantino bloodbath. More violence at a teletubbies picnic. Last, but not least, the 'heightened reality' editing! It's overused so much here, that by the end of the film you're gonna need a whole box of Panadol Extra! I found myself just wishing for a still frame - just to give my eyes a rest. Think the second half of the movie was filmed entirely on Super8 & spliced together with duct tape & bubblegum by David Blunkett. So, average kidnap thriller spoilt by some of the most irritating camerawork / editingin movie history. Region 1 extras limited to a few trailers & two lacklustre commentaries. Expect R2 will have the same.
I cannot fault this masterpiece - By: Camilla Lea, 03 Mar 2008
Man on Fire is a masterpiece. It is well written, shot & edited. Lets not ignore the actor's performance's either...Denzel & Dakota make a dynamic team, working off each other & the execution of their characters are remarkable.
This is without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best filns I have seenin many years - a definate must-see!
