FANTASTIC!!!! - By: P. Hyde, 27 Apr 2008
FANTASTIC - FANTASTIC - FANSTATIC!!!!
Anybody that has been to Scotland should buy this excellent value for money dvd. Shelley & I have been to most of the places shownin this film & to see them from the air is awe inspiring.
This will be an excellent gift to any relative, perhaps getting onin years - who has visited Scotlandin the past (or not). They may now be confined to the boring coach trips to Scotland. I know I can no longer get up them hills & to see the magnificient mountains from the air was bliss.
It is sheer value for money at £2.50p -in windscreen & excellent stereo on my home cinema systems. With the helicopter just brushing the trees & the midge on the camera lens, what reality. We cannot wait for our next trip & hope to soon purchase a motor caravan for extended trips to the Scottish Highlands. Really nice people there too!!
I just hope they make some more - please - please.
Many thanks - Peter & Shelley.
Sound balance - By: Mrs. J. B. Philips, 11 Jan 2008
We have stereo speakers for our television, so did not anticipate a problem. The irritating music overwhelmed the spoken commentary so that the words were inaudible most of the time. It completely spoilt a beautiful video & we were unable to finish watching it.
A disappointment - By: Epitonium, 12 Mar 2007
I livein the west of Scotland & I looked forward to seeing aerial views of places that I knew. However, I was disappointedin this DVD. The helicopter flew very low for much of the time, barely clearing the trees, so what is seen is not really what I would consider to be an aerial view. I had hoped to be looking down on mountains I had climbed, but mountain summits were usually well above the level at which the helicopter was flying, & often the view shown was frustrating because I knew that there was dramatic scenery just out of the picture. The helicopter also had a tendency to follow rivers or railways & showed little of the scenery to either side. The commentary was informative, but had to compete with a musical background which tended to be too obtrusive.
If you don't livein Scotland, you might not be so aware of what you are missing & could find more to enjoy than I did.
Don't miss the bonus footage which contains some of the best scenery & mountain shots.
From the horse's mouth . . . - By: lady_of_a_day, 26 Dec 2006
I bought this as a Christmas present for a mountaineer who has explored most of Scotland. I gave it to him at lunchtime.
By evening he had watched it three times & recommended it to a couple of friends.
It just has to be good!
Scotland from the Air DVD - By: Mr. Alastair Brown, 06 Nov 2006
I bought this DVD on the strength of the only existing review which gave the DVD five stars. I wasn't disappointed but on reflection I'll give it 4 stars. Basically it's very good & there are some stunning shots from the helicopter as it sweeps up glens & skims over lochs - I reckon the pilot must have taken the tops off a few trees he flies so low ! I'm knocking off one star for two reasons - firstly I think the production crew could have waited for sunshine for more of the shots as some scenes would have looked much better bathedin sunshine.Secondly production values occasionally slip a bit - what appears to be a wasp wanders over the camera from time to time & there is the odd shot of a trailing sound boom. Allin all though it's a pretty good buy which I would recommend - how about a version No.2 takingin other areas of Scotland not covered here ? i.e. the Borders,Edinburgh, the Far North etc.etc.
