Gene Kelly so it can't fail! - By: Helen, 29 Nov 2008
Not the greatest moviein the world, not the greatest musical either, but anything with Gene Kelly is worth having as he's a true major starin anything he does. I love the music & the fanciful story. Yes, the Americans trying - or not trying - to produce Scots accents, that's cringe-making nowadays, but this movie was made a long time ago when the Americans didn't see anything strangein Scots sounding like strangled Americans. Nowadays it wouldn't be accepted but if what you want is a modern film with modern standards, you won't be watching this fairy story anyway.
Perfect nostalgia!

Cheesy!! Cheesy Cheesy - By: A. Randall-Gavin, 11 Sep 2007
If you love corn & don't care how cheesy a production is, then you'll absolutely rave about this film. I do like corn but I have standards.
Story is OK (perfect for stage production). Didn't think the film explored very creative ways of making this. Just looked like the stage production had been put on film.
If you don't mind listening to American actors speaking with the most appalling Scottish accents (what was the Speech Coach thinking????? Was there even a Speech Coach???), then fine.
I love musicals but this is just awful. The accents got on my nerves. Not a production I'd recommend. Thank goodness I only paid £5 for it. The dances were boring & predictable. I had to switch it offin the middle - I couldn't cope with any more.
Good things to say about it....The songs are classics & it's always good to see Gene Kelly. It's very highly colourful
This is Cheese personified. The Americans must be cringing...and if they aren't they jolly well should be!!!
A good old fashioned love story! - By: M. Duff, 30 Jun 2007
I used to watch this film as a child & loved the story, costumes, songs & dancing. And now I'm older I still love it!
A love story between a guy & a gal - separated by more than just continents. A shooting expeditionin the mist leads to the discovery of a villagein the Scottish Highlands where the villagers are somewhat old-fashioned.......
Just magical! Suspend your disbelief & watch this film, it will make you smile!
Ill go home with beautiful Jean - By: B. Chandler, 20 Oct 2005
In mid-18 th century, Highlands of Scotland, Rev. Mr. Forsythe decided that they village of Brigadoon was being unduly influences by witches & the outside world to he asked for a miracle that was granted & The village only appears one day once every hundred years.
It just so happens that on this very day two hunters from New York were lostin the Highlands Tommy Albright (Gene Kelly) & Jeff Douglas (Van Johnson). There Tommy meets & fallsin love with a girl (Cyd Charisse), but does she really exist?
Things get a bit complicated & Tommy has a lot to think about while Jeff under the influence of alcohol may have shot more than a bird.
Ones man's miracle can be another man's curse.
An often overlooked musical, the music & songs of Lerner & Loewe, which is a product of its time. This movie does not pretend to be anything but a movie version of the stage production directed by Vincente Minnelli, with Jan Johnson & Gene Kelly at their best. I have seen several liver productions & this is one of those rare occasionsin which the movie is superior. A must for any collection.
