123 very well done but ABC very disappointing - By: Mrs. Z.S.Q., 26 Oct 2008
Even though the DVD is a bargain & the 123 is done very well I found the ABC section extremely disappointing. There is more stress on the rhyme aspect of poems rather than the actual ABC . In factin the entire ABC section they never once said the whole alphabet!..My son loves the 123 section so thats the part we play all the time....
Good for numbers, not for letters - By: C. Catchpole, 07 Jan 2007
The 123's part of this is excellent. My son has watched it time & time again & now knows all his numbers from 1 - 9. There are songs & a storyline to keep him interested & he still enjoys it now.
The ABCs bit is not good. It only deals with a handful of letters - & capital letters at that - & rhyming words which unless the child understands what rhymes are & can already read is a bit pointless. We have watched it a few times, but it's not really worth it.
abc section is poorly conceived; dvd controls are irksome - By: DEM, 31 Oct 2006
This DVD takes a while to start because Disney programmed it to prevent you from skipping over some of the preview material. This is a pet peeve of mine, particularly on a children's DVD which, ideally, will be viewed over & over again.
The 123 section is ok, but the ABC video is poorly conceived. As other reviewers mention, the first part of the ABC cartoon focuses on rhymes. It does this not by focusing solely on the sound of the rhymes but instead shows you the words on several pages of Christopher Robin's notebook. In order for a child to appreciate this section, he or she really ought to know how to read already. Late, late, latein the video, the characters finally do a cursory review a few letters--R, P, O, T, E, & K. That's it. The first time we watched the video, my little girl turned to me & asked, a bit indignantly, "When come alphabet?!?" Of course she gets a certain pleasure just out of watching the Pooh characters on the screen, but pedagogically speaking, I think the Leapfrog LETTER FACTORY video, or something from Sesame Street (alas, regional code 1, usually), is much, much better for a child starting to learn the ABCs. Sesame Street's LEARNING TO COUNT or 123 COUNT WITH ME are also better for counting. Not just my opinion, but my daughter's, too.
Definitely Worth It! - By: M. Sideris-Bettencourt, 11 May 2006
I purchased this DVD for my 30 month old who loves learning numbers & letters, & he loves it. I always watch all the DVD's we buy for him more than once, as I am interestedin what & how he is learning, & I can tell you this is a great purchase.
Listed below are some of the many reasons why I recommend this:
a) It has great songs along with our kids' favorite friends Pooh & the gang.
b) It attracts the child's attention by adding a plot, for example 123's shows how everyone is going to a picnic & Roo & Pooh have to learn how to countin order to bring 10 items to the picnic.
c) It shows the little ones that learning is a process & not something that happens overnight, very encouraging.
d) It teaches them that there is an order to numbers, which you have to follow.
e) The lettersin ABC's follows a specific order to help them learn the letters more easily. Please note however if you are looking for something to teach your children the alphabet you will need more than this DVD as this focuses only on the letters that the characters names start from & it is meant to attract the little ones attention to letters & the alphabet, more as an intro. But still very nicely done.
f) 123's teaches them that numbers are used to count & that you can count same & different objects using them.
g) I love the counting song. Whenever we have the DVD on I catch myself singing it out loud orin my head.
I think I have said enough. I believe you get the picture. All I have to addin closing is, VERY GOOD VALUE FOR THE MONEY!
Fantastic! - By: , 19 Dec 2005
Winnie the Pooh ABC's & 123's is absolutely fantastic. It's a great way to introduce toddlers to letters & numbers without being too educational. Wonderful songs & storyline. The only thing I can fault it on is that it takes a good minute to start the DVD once you have bypassed all the introduction clips & adverts. Apart from that the actual content is brilliant. How about that - Fantastic, Great, Wonderful & Brilliant all usedin the space of one small review.
