Utterly charming - By: Seren Ade, 19 Nov 2008
I bought this film (on budget DVD) as a last-minute impulse purchase. It was one of several movies bought for a girlie weekend in: the only one I'd never heard of before... & the only one I would EVER voluntarily watch again (indeed, I already have: thrice).
This is a beautifully-crafted story about love, families & lies. With superbly pitched performances by all concerned & a NOT straightforward ending. HIGHLY recommended.
A favourite! - By: C. P. Costouros, 10 Oct 2008
This is definately one my favourite films of all time.
I loved the "feel" of this movie. It's slow but it's not boring, quite the opposite. And this is the beauty of this film. For, despite the fact that it is not an action-packed film, the story is stimulating, dramatic & full of impact & yet it progresses effortlessly. It is a beautiful story, sweet, sensitive, melancholic & inspiring.
All the actors are absolutely magnificent & because of that it is so easy to relate to the characters despite the fact that the storyline is quite extrordinary.
In particular Gerard Butler is absolutely amazingin this film. Not only is he unbelievably gorgeous but his acting is fantastic too. Not a lot is saidin this movie, but he manages to convey all of his feelings, thoughts & emotions & that speaks a lot about his acting ability.
This is a fantastic film & it's such a shame that it is not that well known.
Dear Frankie - dear film - By: C. Bendle, 30 Sep 2008
This is one of those films that slips under the Hollywood radar. It doesn't try too hard, & it doesn't fill time with pointless scenes. It tells a heart warming & poignant story, & it tells it very well. Emily Mortimer is perfect as the mother trying to both protect & make her deaf son happy. Gerard Butler doesn't steal the limelight, but blends well with the other characters. Whilst providing some light relief are the scenes with the children. I would recommend this film to anyone wanting to be entertained & uplifted.
Takes my breath away....every time - By: Daisymoo, 30 Jul 2008
A truly fantastic film, perfectin every way. The story is incredible, the direction flawless & the acting superb. Gerry Butler is his usual devastatingly handsome talented self, & Jack McElhone is probably the best kid actor I've ever seen. Powerful performances by all. I can't recommend this film highly enough, perhaps now my all time favorite movie. I've had it 5 months & seen it about 9 times, & it takes my breath away....every time. Buy it, watch it....you won't regret it.
