An Evening with Matt Monro - By: Phyllis Kaye, 26 Feb 2007
Pull up a chair & enjoy, "An Evening with Matt Monro," & that's what it was for me, an enjoyable, touching evening. I kept hitting replay, listening again to his passionate voice, his songs, & after I watched it all, I played it again right from the beginning. He seemed to really enjoy singing for the folks. He conveys an easy style with his performance & his charming & natural personality shows through; I felt like I was right therein the room with him & listening to the best voice I'd ever heard, velvety, & lush & sometimes slighting haunting. He makes every song "uniquely his own." Add to that, the bonus songs at the end, these alone are worth more then the price of the DVD; you will want to watch & listen again & again.
For me, it was serendipitous that I discovered this melodious singer; I was searching the Internet for good music & to my jubilation, this man with his unique & extraordinary voice popped up. When he sang, I felt his words; his songs are meant to evoke emotion as well as be heard. He truly was one-of-a-kind; I couldn't help but ask myself, "how come I missed out on him for so long?????" If you are a Matt Monro fan, you will really enjoy this DVD, I sure do.

Wow! Matt In Concert...It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This
No matter how many times you've heard Matt Monro, you've never really known him until now. Even if you've enjoyed a TV clip or two, this is the very first chance to get the complete impact of Matt's personality & command on stage.
Those of us who have loved him for years, but never saw him perform, now have this amazing record of a 1967 cabaret concert, found recently among family mementoes. It's black & white with a bit of a grainin the print, which adds a dream-like, ethereal quality that feels perfectly appropriate for a discovery of this kind.
Watch Matt as he takes complete control of the room with his interactive audience routines & occasionally off-color banter. He seems so real; for the very first time you realize that this magnificient voice really did belong to a living mortal. You wonder with anticipation what surprises will come next: a new inflection here, or an unexpected note there.
[Consider purchasing the "Collectors Edition" rather than this one, as for just a little more you get a great biography/discography by Matt's daughter Michele.]
Best of all, this sensational entertainer, whose new tribute album "The Ultimate" has hit the Top Ten (Number "007" at this writing), is spectacularly receiving the attention & treatment he deserves.
'Matt' the super vocalist and smooth entertainer - By: C. FULLER, 08 Mar 2005
The long awaited film of Matt Monroin Melbournein 1967 has been released by Odeon Entertainment. The discovery of a reel of filmin the Monro family garage was as exciting a musical find as anyone could have dreamt of. The film which was notin the best of condition has been transferred to DVD & the sound has been given the Dolby treatment. There are 2 different versions of the DVD the first being the standard with cabaret, short documentary including family & musician interviews, the cabaret with introduction & commentary by David Jacobs. The special limited edition has the bonus of a 96-page booklet full of fascinating photos & information on Matt's life.
The cabaret on offer is a prime example of Matt Monro at his peak & this is a show that will no doubt bring back many happy memories for those who saw Mattin the UK at the many many venues at which he performed. It is excellent to see him doing his ice breaker "How do you do" which was written for him by Mike & Bernie Winters & was designed to introduce him to the audience. Many of his most well known songs are included & the Australian orchestra does its best to back the International star but they are not as accomplished as the UK studio orchestras he worked with. Musical Director Kenny Clayton plays the piano beautifully & adds great style to the arrangements. The easy style of Matt the man & artist comes through from the start & with the addition of his unique patter & some jokes he comes across as a charming man. With this show not only do you get all the best singing but can share the super atmosphere of the event too.
