wartime romance and a wife and a mistress - By: Dr. U. L. Khawaja, 17 Sep 2008
this is a wartime drama between two women who are both mourning the death of the same man who diedin actionin france .
the man is sean conneryin a dashing turn as an army officer who was having an affair with the american journalist lana turner- unaware that he had a provincial wife & sonin dorset .
after his death she decides to visit his family to know more about the man she loved & a rather mature drama unfolds as the wife discovers her dead husband's clandestine liaison ,initially to her distress but then a tender bond develops between the 2 women & that is very interesting to watch as lana turner & glynis give very credible performances .
wartime london & the blitz is captured well too & sean connery is the icing on the cake as he provides the love interestin the moviein a uniform .
the movie holds well & it delivers both emotionally & dramatically even today .what is different is how the director introduces you to the private life of a war hero who is surrounded by the aura of glory as a boring domestic existence which isin sharp contrast to the excitement of war & you realise why this man was actually enjoying & really believedin what he was doing after watching his other sidein retrospect .
a rather different war movie with a difference
FABULOUS UN-MISSABLE MOVIE! - By: FAMOUS NAME, 16 Sep 2008
NOTE: THOUGH THE DVD BOX SAYS THIS FILM IS COLOUR, IT IS IN FACT BLACK & WHITE.
Fabulous & dramatic love story starring Sean Connery & Glynis Johns.
Sarah (Lana Turner) is an American Columnist for a Newspaper overin England towards the end of World War II. She meets News Reporter Mark Trevor (Sean Connery) & they fallin love & have an affair. There are thingsin the way; Sarah is about to get married, & Mark already has a wife & child. As if that is not complicated enough, & after they've decided never to see each other again, the War ends, & there's a shock happening which to give away would spoil the movie, butin this, rather than your usual run-of-the-mill romance tale, there are some shock moments awaiting around each corner. An unusual film & un-missable!
Also stars; Sid James, John Le Mesurier, Terence Longdon & a rare appearance of the great child star Martin Stephens. ('The Innocents')
Great Movie!
