![]() Comparing Prices... Customer ReviewsWonderful film for everyone (including 40+ year olds...) - By: S J Buck, 17 Feb 2008![]() Yes this is basically a kids film, but as a 40+ person with no kids who has purchased the DVD, I'll happily own up to being an adult who loves this film. This film set the benchmark for computer animated films when it was releasedin 1995 & it still looks good today. The story is simple & the characters are marvellous. Whoever thought of the idea that Buzz Lightyear could be a toy who believes he really is a Space Ranger deserved an Oscar. Its a brilliantly conceived idea, which has a funny & at times touching script. Its also worth mentioning the that the songs are by Randy Newman, a vastly underrated musician & songwriter, whose Uncles wrote the music for some the great Hollywood movies of the 40's & 50's. The extras on the two disc edition are pretty good, but its the main film you're buying it for. In my opinion Toy Story 2 is even better than this one - 6 stars for that one perhaps? A Classic, one of the best. - By: J. L. Jones, 29 Dec 2007 ![]() I bought & watched this after about 5 years of not watching it, & i still love it, perhaps even more than before! I think it is one of the best childrens films ever made, but adults love it too! Even though it was made more than ten years ago i think that kids will still love this today, it should bein anyones collection, a fun clever & interesting film that was a breakthrougin the anime era. Brilliant is all that can be said!!! "hey buzz can you kick my ass for me?" oh sorry... HE ALREADY HAS! - By: FROG!, 27 Dec 2007 ![]() dear deer me what is this Cods wallop? bought it for my old son this christmas & he was not impressed. what whos happening he said! i had to agree with him i cud not beleev it! if i cud say 3 words about this film they would be absoloot TOSH! it is an Interesting film I will sell you that BUT it does not tickle my taste buds becoz their was no chicken man. ALOS, the graphics just arent good enough. i have a playstation 3 that was good & produced better graphics but i can play it no more cos i ate the airial wire getting into it. - By: for whom the bell tolls, 02 Dec 2007 ![]() i loved toy story 2 but i'm still trying to get into the first toy story film. it is not as good as 2 because was the first pixar film to be releasedin theaters, but i watch it oncein a few weeks to try to get into it. the best part is the end of the movie where the family moves, i mean the moving truck. but it still is a great addition to toy story 2. i would rate this a 3 star rating because it is not as good as 2. Pixar-tastic! - By: DangermouseZilla, 16 Oct 2007 ![]() This was a groundbreaking film when it came out, you'd think that after all these years it'd look dated & not up-to-scratch compared to modern CGI features - but it still looks great! I watched it again the other on DVD & if you really scrutinise you can tell where an image is added over another (Buzz & Woody at the top of the stairsin the evil Sid's house - they don't really appear to be making contact with the floor) but this is such a minor detail that most people would never notice it. It's amazing that this film which is now 12 years old is still one of the benchmark holders for the genre, the quality really is amazing. The plot finds Woody knocked off his throne as Andy's favourite toy when he gets a Buzz Lightyear action figure. Buzz doesn't know he's a toy though - he thinks the LEDin his arm really is a deadly laser. A lot of the humourin the first half of the film comes from Buzz's belief that he is actually a Space Ranger from another planet. The jealousy & patronising attitude of Woody towards Buzz is tested when they find themselves stranded at a petrol station. I won't discuss the plot any more for those who haven't seen it, but the real humourin this film comes from the interaction between Buzz & Woody. Not just humour either, there's a real pathos between the two. The way the toys interact with each other is donein such a way that it mirrors `real life' mannerisms & anxieties. The casting is perfect. Before I saw this film over a decade ago I couldn't really imagine Tom Hanks as Woody & Tim Allen as Buzz - but they are perfect for the role. They use their voices to really put across the emotions of the characters. The animators obviously part modelled the features on the actual actors. The rest of the characters are casted just as brilliantly with a notable performance from John "Cheers" Ratzenberger (who also has a small partin Monsters Inc) amongst others. The DVD package is fab, with lots of features including promotional material, animated shorts, documentaries, commentaries, etc. The quality of the film transfer is spot on, this DVD boasts the highest bit-rate for this film during any of its other DVD releases. I haven't got an older DVD to compare it to - but it does look strikingly fresh & crisp.
