one of the worst movies of all time - EVER! - By: catholic tastes, 04 Apr 2008
It is very, very rare that I regret the fact that I have wasted two hours of my life watching a film. This move ie one of those occasions, though. It is ludicrousin the extreme - a bizarre fantasy-world of exquisitely pretty working class thugs with no redeeming features; it is boring, pointless, negative, & features unnecessary (and stomach-churning) cruelty towards animals. Do not watch this movie. If I could give it negative marks, I would; if I could ask for a refund on my rental plan, I would.
rough diamond. - By: Mr. S. Murphy, 01 Apr 2008
This is a wonderful movie & as much about our inability to deal with death as a young mans ability to tame the demon. It is simple but not simplistic & the character developmentsin the main are both believable & thought provoking. Although a sad tale one is left with hope. Beautifully acted & shotin the foothills of Southern France. The images of innocence & love are quite frankly breath taking & shown with grace & bravity.
Incredibly bad - By: Observer1, 16 Jan 2008
Stupid film about unintelligent & untalented people. I am amazed that it has received a higher rating than one star, negative would be more telling.
Full marks for this one.......... - By: Ricardo, 12 Jun 2007
Brilliant! A superb cast acting their socks off to a sad tale, yet never too dismal, this film is one of the best I have ever seen. Stephane Rideau is a delight to watch as usual!!
Mixed Feelings - By: Mr. C. C. Barrett, 27 May 2007
This film has obviously been made by a group of extremely good professionals. All actors depict their characters brilliantly & encourage very deep empathy within the viewer,in spite of any other violence or callousness they show. The music used within the film sets the mood excellently, without being an intrusion or a gloss. The division of the film into three sections, each ostensibly focusing on one of three brothers, is a clever way of arranging the content.

Whilst I thought the film was really well made & did a good job of describing the characters & setting, there was no identifiable storyline. It was as if we were presented with a slice of this family's life, but with no evident build-up, resolution, conclusion or finale. I'd perhaps recommend this to people who would like to see a section of French life that is novel & unexpected, but not as an entertainment.
