Rory - A complete professional musician - By: Malig Mill, 21 Nov 2008
Well what to say? I first saw him at the Elecric Gardens, Glasgow - late 69?? I think it was - & again at Reading.
I've now got this Rockpalast DVD, the Montreux DVDs & the Cork tour, get those three & you have the (almost)complete Rory, spanning decades - what more do you need to appreciate the genius of the man.
Thank you Rory
Rory Gallagher - A Great Bluesman. - By: Nicholas J Harrison, 22 Jan 2006
This 3 DVD collection spans 14 years of Rory Gallagher & is quite simply a superb reminder of him doing what he did best - playing live.
From the 1976 performancein a German TV studioin Cologne through to a 1990 performance alsoin Cologne, we are treated to an artist at the very peak of his craft. Rory had a stage persona that demanded your full attention &in return the viewer was rewarded with some mesmeric performances.
There are occasionsin these DVD's where the sound quality dips, particularly at the start of the Loreley concert but it quickly recovers & does not detract from the overall enjoyment.
The concerts encompass the whole range of the Gallagher portfolio & I believe will stand to serve as an example to up & coming blues musicians how great energy & a joy of performing will always be received by appreciative audiences.
It is 11 yearsin June 2006 since his death & this collection is a most welcome addition to the Rory material readily available. We have Donal Gallagher to thank for this. Please don't stop looking for others.
At the end of his shows Rory always used to say "Thank you very much & I hope you enjoyed the show"
We did & thanks to this release we still can!
Great set but... - By: M. Harris, 16 Jan 2006
If (like me) you brought last years 'live at Rockpalast' dvd prepare to be ripped off again because its includedin this box set & if (like me) you have to have it then its more expense. I was caught out with the 'let's get to work' box set when the Holland gig was reissued seperately. Sure Rory live is something to be savoured, but i can't help but feel cheated & feel sure that Rory wouldn't of treated his fans this way.
My air guitar got busted due to exhaustion! - By: bigmoth, 29 Dec 2005
I was very fortunate to have seen the legend that is Rory Gallagherin the late 70's & early 80's & was destroyed by news of his death. He was the greatest live act that I ever had the privelege to experience, beyond doubt the finest Blues Rock Guitarist (for me)in the world. His persona during concerts shone fiercely fuelled by an energy & enthusiasm that was both electrifying & disbelieving. He became the instrument that he was playing turning it into a living creature that could not be satisfied. He lived his life for his music & felt every emotion that he poured into it.That is what makes him so special & this DVD compilation, luckily for those who never got the chance to feel him live captures that raw energy & essence & at least gives the new listener or should I say observer the magic that was Rory Gallagher! You have to buy this set!. I did & was still left reeling at the total dedication, atmosphere, enthusiasm & willpower of a man that made you listen, made you want to listen & still plays to youin spirit now & beckons you to listen.Wow!!! Enjoy!! Absolutely stunning
