"He's marrying a Scullery Maid?" - By: Mr. M. Wray, 31 Dec 2008
This is such a Family Classic, But its enjoyable for anyone family or no family, Child or Adult.Couples, or families, or people who live by themselves, its perfect for everyone!
Mixedin with alot of Comedy, & Light Situations, & a happy endin, it makes a lovely evening to lay on your sofa grab some popcorn & chill too.
The Wonderful & Beautiful Plot Is where the children's mum's passed on, & The Father isin trouble tryin to look after them, & the children scare off their 17th Nanny, after being very very naughty, & it's a right chaos situation. No more nannys were willing to work for him.
Until one night, it got so bad, & the children were downstairsin the kitchen making a mess, & chaos! After Nanny Mcphee Arrived, they swoar an oath to each other to get rid of her like they got rid of the rest. But They failed. Nanny Mcphee, was a Nanny, But not just any Nanny. She was a Special Nanny with Magic. In the Film, she learnt she had 5 Lessons to teach.. "1: Got to bed when they're told, 2: Say Thank you And Please, 3 Get up & dressed When they are told, 4 Listen, 5 Do as they are told."
With the magic, comedy, & traumatic situations.. This film is enchanting.. 10/10
Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Kelly MacDonald
Now, some might see this film as a Film based on those Television shows about wheres the has a family thats out of shape, & they need a proffessional to help them out. It's nothing like that at all! It's a movie with a story other than the children need to be taught how to behave..
Nanny McPhee - By: T. Shields, 24 May 2008
I bought this movie because it was on the TV. I enjoyed it with Nanny McPhee teaching the kids some manners. Nanny McPhee stands for no foolhardiness & doesn't let the children away with any nonscense. She even tells the cook to make them soup which looks rotten & gives them measle medicine with lumps moving aboutin it. My favourite part was when she gave Mr Brown the fright of his life each night she kept coming to see him. The part at the begining when Mr Brown meet's Nanny McPhee, he thinks she's strange looking & almost jumps out of his skin but he invites herin reluctantly.
Mr Brown's Aunt is a nasty woman but at least she is paying the rent.
The woman who Mr Brown is forced to marry is a bit over the top & it's clear Mr Brown doesn't fancy her but she fancies him.
In the end Mr Brown marries the young Scullery Maid Evangeline who he seceratly fancies anyway. We see Nanny McPhee looking better here & looking like a normal person & looking younger.
I give this film 5 stars.
A must buy movie! - By: Cristina Sette, 22 Feb 2008
I do not regret I bought this DVD, even though I did not know what the story was about. The children loved it & they watched over & over again. I enjoy it as much as them.
Nanny McPerfect - By: Andrew Kyle, 01 Nov 2007
Oh ho. Your initial reaction would be - whats a 24 year old liking a film like this for? It's a kids film, & its not right for a twentysomething young adult male to like this sort of thing. Well, I say sod you then. For I loved Nanny McPhee, hands down. I thought the story, the acting, the comedy, the music, it was all spot on & it takes its place rightly up there with my most favourite films. Sorry.
Let us start on the plot. Okay, so it seems from a distance to be a rip off of Mary Poppins. Its not at all like the it, though. Don't let anyone suggest it. Yes, its about a Nanny, & yes, it's a family film that pushes all the right buttons, but no, its not the same thing. Good, that's that over with. It's a fantastically traditional fairy tale with all the right ingredients - wicked stepmother, kids, handsome prince & absolutely stunning princess. Only they're not prince & princess, they're adoring father & cuddle-able scullery maid.
Colin Firth exudes so much charm that I challenge the most hardened cynic not to smile at his fumbling persona and...niceness. Kelly MacDonald is superb as the maid who adores the kids & thinks that the poor father simply doesn't notice her (which is obviously not true). In fact, let me stand up for myself a little. Accuse me of being an old romantic because this film makes me cry - butin defence of my masculinity, I think Evangeline is quite simply stunning, gorgeous, beautiful, hot, fantastic...I could list every wordin the thesaurus, but I shall not.
Guest appearances from Derek Jacobi, Imelda Staunton & even Angela Lansbury simply pepper the supporting ensemble with brilliance. But I'm now going to wax lyrical about the simply divine Emma Thompson. Starting offin the film as a witchy nanny with warts, a big nose & a rather rotund behind, she loses her ugliness as the film progressesin accordance with the movement of the plot, & as she does so starts to display that wonderfulness that you come to expect from her. Her performance is a classic - up there with Julie Andrewsin Mary Poppins, Maggie Smithin Hook, the Pigeon Lady from Home Alone 2; those women that you remember from your childhood film watching & smile & feel that warm buzzy feeling. I only hope that some kids of this generation remember Emma's wonderful character.
Nanny McPhee,in my eyes, is one of those very rare things. A modern classic. I cannot praise it more. It's a whole five stars. Ten out of ten. I can't fault it. Not even for a second.
I've seen it several times. I've criedin happiness, every single time. Call me pathetic, but...sometimes a good old fairy tale with a happy ending is exactly what we need.
One for the child in us all - By: Kermit, 03 Jul 2007
I watched this film with my partner & found it to be an absolute treat.
This film is aimed at children but anyone who likes a fun film will enjoy this.
Emma Thompson is brilliant as the title character & her acting is superb. The childrenin the film all play their parts brilliantly & are very beleivable as the little brats they play.
The plot is a bit predictable but then you expect that from a kids film & this film is not the right choice if you want intricate plot twists but it is the right choice for simple family fun!
