If not the original, probably the best. - By: E. Coolican, 06 Oct 2008
I can't really add much more to other reviews, you either think basil's shtick is unparalled or you don't.Some honour must go to the granada version from the 80's, but I only saw one world class episode from that.My only beef with dear old Bas is that I often find myself reaching for my pipe whilst watching, a clear case of brainwashing, Dr Moriarty... & filmed at a time when Britons' were at their best.
SUPERB - By: soccer daft, 14 Feb 2008
SUPERB ENTERTAINMENT FROM IN MY OPINION THE BEST SHERLOCK HOLMES (ALTHOUGH NIGEL BRUCE SOMETIMES STEALS THE SHOW AS DR WATSON). ALSO A FANTASTIC PRICE (2.97+P&P) MAKES THIS AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR FANS OF SHERLOCK HOLMES.
Great! - By: "Smith" Reader, 28 Apr 2007
This is a super set of the last 12 'Rathbone' Sherlock Holmes films. When I ever read a Sherlock Holmes story the picture of 'Holmes' is that of Mr. Rathbone.
Good transfer of the film. Not perfect.
Good collection for the money - By: Paul Smith, 31 Jan 2007
This collection has the last 12 of the 14 Rathbone/Bruce Sherlock Holmes films from the 1930/40s.
The first two films "Hound of the Baskervilles" & "The adventures of Sherlock Holmes" do not appear here as they were produced by Fox & not Universal, who produced the last 12 which are here.
The quality of the film to DVD transfer is good, & perfectly watchable, however there are DVD releases of all 14 films released which have massively improved clear remastering...the choice is yours. These are perfectly acceptable for the price, but if you want absolute clarity & pristine transfers, you will have to fork out much more money.
The films speak for themselves, quality writing/acting from all involved.
