Absolutely Fantastic - By: debbie8355, 16 Nov 2008
A friend lent us this film with a 'must watch' recommendation & my 4,6 & 8 year old absolutely loved it. We had to buy our own versionin the end as after 2 weeks they still didn't want to give it back. It's up therein their favourite top 3 films ever. It's one of those films you'll watch time & time again & it's interesting enough for adults to sit through.

It is visually stunning. The bright colours & action of the computer generated scenes are way different to anything I've seen before & the story of a young boy struggling with all the day to day problems associated with parents, school, bullies, teachers etc will hit a cord with any primary school age child.

This 3D version comes with 2 pairs of pink glasses & 2 pairs of blue glasses. They are the standard flimsy cardboard type butin the film the boy hero gets to wear the pink ones too so my children loved joining in. In the 3D version you do not need to wear the glasses all the time. There are 'glasses on' & 'glasses off' messages on the screen. It is mainlyin the fantasy scenes with Sharkboy & Lavagirl they need to be worn. The fantasy aspect of the film really utilises the 3D glasses. Lava rocks coming towards you etc.

There normal film version without the 3D is also available on this disk & now the novelty of the glasses has worn off this is the version my childen watch most.

The charactersin this film are really cool & modern. In many ways this is like an ultra modern updated 'Never Ending Story' film. There is some clever dialogue & it is a superb riot of imagination let loose on the screen. If you are a daydreamer or have kids with fantastic imaginations buy this, you won't be disappointed.

This is absolutely a must see film for children.

Great kid's film - By: , 07 Apr 2006
My 6 year old & nearly 2 year old boys were both hooked on this film from the word go. It's simply one of those films. The colour scheme throughout the majority of the film is vibrant, which is why,in essence, I think it attracts the very young. My 6 year old could relate to Max, or the 'daydreamer', & longed to be like shark boy. Even I, as an adult can appreciate why my kid's love this film, as I myself have watched it quite a few times too!. A film for every child!
The adventures of shark boy and lave girl - By: , 07 Apr 2006
I had never heard of this film when I gave it to my 7 year old as a Friday night treat. By the time he had finished he was breathless with excitement. he came runningin to tell me it was the BEST he had EVER seen. He liked the main character & found the action exciting. He wouldn't let me send it back for over a week.
Superhero Sucks... - By: Mr. Jd Ware, 27 Mar 2006
Allegedly this film was created & dreamt by Racer Rodriguez - son of director Robert Rodriguez. Well, Robert certainly has confidencein his son, but it's a shame that it is mis-placed, because this is a shallow, stupid, day glo film that has little to offer anybody.

Am I being too harsh? No, not really. This is a prime example of the film makers throwing everything at the screen regardless of if it works or fits the setting of the film. It is an example of excess & special effects over substance & true storytelling. Yes, this film is full of cliches.

Which is a shame. Because the title is definately intriguing, & itsin 3-D, even thoughin the end the third dimension was a bit of a gimmick.

The two main characters, Sharkboy & Lavagirl are excellent creations, but Sharkboy is all faux macho-ness, & Lavagirl does nothing but smile. Her jaw must have ached at the end of filming. Normal, non-superhero character Max is blandin comparison & not a true hero at all. Baddies are over the top & wacky, & follow the baddie formula strictly.

The film is fast paced, mainly because there is a battle or fight scene every five minutes, regardless if there needed to be one or not. In the end, you just don't care who wins over Dreamland.

The special effects are certainly ropeyin some sections, & the cartoony visuals really don't fit alongside the real life filming. This should have been a better film, regarding the talent involved, but it ended up being a mess of ideas flung together & not really gelling.

A Ripp Roaring Romp for the Under 10's!!!! - By: L. E. Stacey, 02 Mar 2006
As an adult of some quarter of a century its difficult to write a review on a film like this as it could easily degenerate into a mass slating condemning it from every aspect. That though would be the opinion of a man whose 25 watching a kids film, & wouldn't be fair as i am looking at it through adult eyes.

What i can base my opnion on though is that of my 5 year old daughter, who is notoriously hard to keep amused. In short she loved this film form start to finish. This film captivated her attention for the entire duation as she satin silence, bespecaledin 3D Glasses. I know others who have bought this for there children & its had the same almost hypnotic effect. Watching it from the sidelines i think its superior to the Spy Kids franchise & is completely children friendly & entertaining.

The plot for those still unsure is pure kiddies comic book about a boy whose comic creations come to life & he has to team up with them to save the world. These creations are the SharkBoy & Lava Girl of the films title. Its throwaway stuff to be sure but it plays out wonderfully for kids.

As adult viewing i wouldn't even dignify it with 1 star. As an item of childrens entertainment its a 5/5 blockbuster which deserves the upmost plaudits.

This is the kinda film that if you want a few hours piece to read the paper you can pop thisin & know that your kids arein safe hands.
