If you're a Hugh Grant fan (which I am) then this is an enjoyable enough film but it doesn't rank with the likes of "Four Weddings & a Funeral" or "Notting Hill". If you're not a Grant fan then you'll probably loathe it. It's difficult to have any sympathy with Grant's character & the rest of the cast (with the possible exception of Rachel Weisz) aren't that engaging. I'm not sure if that's down to the casting, acting or writing but somewhere the chemistry went missing (or failed to arrive). My recommendation: watch it when it comes round on TV rather than spend your hard earned cash on the DVD.
Slightly sugary ending earned by all that has gone before - By: J. Potter, 28 Feb 2006 I was surprised by this, I expected some trite pseudo love story but instead got a well acted, cleverly observed tale of colourfull characters going about everyday life. Well everyday people other than Hugh Grant who plays a rich son of a one of christmas jingle creater. Its strength, as the title would suggest isin the relationship between Grants character & that of boy whos mother he is pared off with at a singles club. The ending is a bit cornflower but has been earned by everything that has proceeded it. I did watch this by myself but is something that might be appreciated by a couple even more
