This was THE first &in my view the only genuine attempt to portray the real mindset & culture of football hoologanismin Britain. The story line is realistic & convincing & the fight scenes are compelling. What is real value is the rationale of a man who transforms his traditional family life, midweek to his other "family" & true inner self on match days.

The film does not glorify violence but is a legitimate attempt to explain the powerful influence of peer & social pressures to 'belong'. The end of the film sends a clear message that such power has a proven ability to infiltrate society.

A truly brilliant performance from Oldman & a highly influential film
