You would really be one of them - By: Jacques COULARDEAU, 25 Sep 2008
series is all-comprehensive about security & emergency servicesin New York City, New York Police Department (precinct 55), Fire Department of New York & hospital. All together to deal with emergencies, crises & other traumatic events as fast as possible &in the most effective way as possible. The rhythm of the series, the density of action, the themes & events are perfect to create & make us livein the tension of that life. But the series is a lot more interesting than that. It explores the personalities & the relations of the various actors of these services & the intricate architecture of private life, family life, children, even cultural life & entertainments is so rich & complex that we really let ourselves slide into the story & we find the characters particularly attractive & human. We do not plainly identify with them because they all seem to have some shortcomings, some of them serious, but we like them because they all have some good positive aspects, some of them particularly rich. The balance of the various genders is subtle though they have resisted the natural idea that there might be one or two gay people, men or women, among these emergency workers. The gay arein the bars, on the streets,in their homes & they are depicted with sympathy & even support when attacked by the bigots. But the emergency workers fit with the set of gender models society is expecting & they do not expect these workers to be gay. It is true it is difficult to deal with itin a series, but they should try. We then go from one episode to the next with great expectations & we are not disappointed. This first season is thrillingin many ways. At times though some situations are really scary, but realistic, yet the solutions are not always that realistic as if the series tried to protect us against a lot more drastic endings & to promote a very super-hero vision of some emergency workers at certain momentsin their lives.

Fantastic show - wish more box sets were released - By: littleskippy, 20 Dec 2007
This is the most fantastic show ever. If you are a fan of ER this won't disappoint you. I am very sad that I cannot buy the full series. I love the action & the personal & professional lives of the characters. I will never be able to understand why this was given a late night showing or mid morning, axed to death. It is a shame; it deserves better & then there would be even more viewers.
Great stuff - By: A. Brown, 21 Nov 2007
As I haven't got Sky I didn't realise that I had never seen series 1. Brilliant characters who just get better. It's got everything that real life throws at you. Can't wait to watch series 2.

A pleasant surprise - By: Chessman, 25 Jul 2007
I bought this series on the back of many enjoyable US boxsets, without expectations. Third Watch has proved to be a splendid view, well worth the price & delivering with each episode.
I was please to note that many of the production/writing team from ER were involvedin the show. Combining the three parts of the NY emergency services into one idea showed inspiration, & it is admirable that no one service is neglectedin order to concentrate overly on another. The humour is plentiful, as is the engaging American ability not to take themselves too seriously. I consider the writing on the show sustains the pedigree of its peers.
I hope that the remaining series will be released soon. It would be a shame to miss the other 5 boxsets when the other reviewers are enthusiastic about the continuing quality of Third Watch. Enjoy - I'm confident you'll be a fan from the first siren.
