This series of Buffy is tremendous! After a rather miserable & dark series 5 I found this one much more filled with giggles whilst still being able to tug the heart strings & give the viewer surprises & something to think about. Willow's "addiction" to magic is portrayed very well & Buffy's struggle to return to the world after beingin heaven is interesting. I do think perhaps the idea of Buffy's being unable to be with her friends properly anymore was not particularly well done but you get the overall picture. The only really bad episode was the one with Xander & Anya's wedding! Other episodes are stuffed with humour - some of which is amply provided by the geekiest bad guys ever to hit Sunnydale & the legendaryt musical episode. Others are thought provoking such as the magical episode where Buffy isin a mental institution - well written & shot so well you are left windering what to believe! A truly fantastic season with something for everybody!

After the dramatic ending to season 5, season 6 promised much but sadly delivered little. If ever a season of a show could be said to be a triumph of style over substance, it's this season.

It's not all bad. The acting is excellent, the musical is an audacious piece & the following episode, "Tabula Rasa" is fun. I also liked the idea of a darker season.

But then the problems hit & hit hard. The Trio are simply not funny, falling back all too often on the most obvious & banal of cliches. For a show that was built on the premise of usurping cliche, its a sad end.

As for the much-discussed Magic Addiction storyline & the murder of Tara, words fail me. The addiction doesn't work, due to the woefully bad writing involved, & as such it undercuts every plot point that accompanies it. As for the death itself, it was badly written, badly staged, badly directed & is so full of holes (no pun intended) that it lacks any credibility. And whilst I do not beleive it was ever the writers intenion to fall into the trap of the dreaded "Dead/Evil Lesbian" cliche, they have instead come up with the definitive version of how it looks on-screen. Not an accolade to be proud of.

Season six, for me is a very powerful, evocative & overall a lot more subtle than seasons before it. As saidin a previous review, "People who write this season off have no idea what they're talking about." & quite rightly so. This season was completely about taking a step back after the cataclysmic climax of season five, & dealing with its results. As a result of season five's story, Buffy is resurrected by the gang, & the wayin which she dealt with that was extremely true to life, her reaction to said resurrection, is one that many who have suffered with or are suffering with depression will completely relate to. The same can be said for Willow & her ongoing battle with her excessive uses of magic. People have tarred the season as being "depressing" butin truth, the only depressing thing is that they lack the, dare I say it...Intelligence, open mindedness & patience to appreciate the intricate web of subtlety that is the epitome of this season.

Season six, was I think great because of the way the tension is gradually & sometimes very subtly built upon until it is suddenly let loosein the final throws of this intelligently written & darkly beautiful season, which paved the way for the less "depressing" Buffy swan-song season seven.

after the shocking events of season 5,season 6 creates a darker broader & more violent atmosphere for the main charactersin another fantastic batch of episodes.

Bargaining*-5/5-PERFECT!!!

After Life-5/5-Buffy gets used to her life again.

Flooded-4/5-humour driven.
Life Serial-5/5-awesomness.

All the way-2/5-mainly focused on Dawn.

ONCE MORE WITH FEELING!**-5/5-LOVE IT...the musical spectacular!!!another one of the greatest episodes ever made!!!!watch it!

Tabula Rasa*-5/5-the Something Blue of season 6...great work.

Smashed*/Wrecked*-5/5-Willow develops her power further...but she can only take so much before it consumes her...Buffy & Spike get very brutal & their relationship reaches new danger levels(should be 18 certificate).

Gone*-5/5-a classic...Buffy turns invisible.

Double meat-3/5-fun & explorative.

Dead Things*-5/5-very character driven & brutal.

Older & Far away-5/5-its Buffsters birthday & no one can leave the house.

As you were-4/5-Riley returns.

Hells Bells*-5/5-Anya & Xanders wedding day.

Normal Again-3/5-a surreal episode.

Entropy-3/5
Seeing Red*-5/5-Tara bids farewell,and very brutal scenes galore(including attempted rape!!)a spectacle.

Villains/Two to go/Grave***-5/5-Willow is the most dangerous foe that Buffy & Xander have to face...can they kill her to save the world?will she destroy it?its an amazing storyline with unexpected results.

I have never been able to decide if this season of Buffy is good or bad, as it has it's high but also seriously low points.

Starting with the good, it features what I would call one of the best episodes they ever made; "Once More With Feeling". Willow turns darkin this series just before & after Tara's death, which is fantastically acted & brings a refreshing new storyline to the show. Anya's character continues to shine. And despite what many other people believe, the Trio save the dayin bringing much needed comedy relief.

However the season is let down by disappointing stories ivolving guns, rapes, & distastful Buffy & Spike sex scenes. Not what you expect from what is usually a brilliant show. The Dawn character continues to get all the more annoying, & sadly Sarah Michelle Gellar just looks bored & tired with her character.

Over all not a series you'll want to watch again & again, but it definitely has it's great moments.
