Ewocks - By: Brendan O. Clarke, 01 Dec 2008
I watched this for the first timein a friends house on an ancient Beta video playerin 1985. I enjoyed it & having watched it again recently for the first timein an attempt to understand why alot of grown men love Star Wars i was disappointed & mystified.

Is it any good? No. R O T J was the Star Wars film which thrilled me most as a child. I loved the ewoks, though now I find them to be a bit irritating & pointlessin terms of plot. I loved the scenesin Jabba's palace, though now I think the use of Jim Henson's Creature Workshop was a bit over the top. I loved & still love the fast paced action sequences & the climactic lightsaber duel at the end.

All this to say I don't think Return Of The Jedi is worth watching as an adult. It is a silly little childrens movie. I still dont understand why grown men keep Star Wars close to their hearts. Grow up & move on.

My favourtie Star Wars film in a really great package - By: Jampump, 03 Oct 2008
Return of the Jedi was my favourite film as a kid growing up when there was only the original trilogy & with the Star Wars saga now complete it still remains my favourite. The first part of the movie isin my opinion some of the past Star Wars adventure out of all six films covering the famous rescue of Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt with still impressive action sequences such as the rancor & sail barge battles. The second half really delivers a satisfying conclusion to the story on all front with the classic intercutting of three distinct battles all being crucial to the resolution of the story. Stunning effects stillin this day & age & a really emotional stoyline make forin my opinion the best conclusion the Star Wars saga could have hoped for.

This release of the filmin my opinion ids great. The main disc has the latest edition of the film which is of really good quality & as someone who has not got much of problem with the changes made with the DVD release of the classic trilogy this is the disc I usually watch. The second contains the original version of the film & is a great addition for fans who want to have this amzing film as it was when it was first released. Brilliant filmin a very good package.
If you go down to the Woods today......................... - By: Mr. D. Swan, 31 Mar 2008
Growing up with the Original Star Wars movie's, seeing them allin the cinema I have fond feelings for them all, all except this one. After the Dark master piece of Empire Strikes Back were treated to this rather hap hazard bag of mistakes, Don't get me wrong, there are some great bits, the speeder bike chase the Space battle outside the unfinished Death Star, but these confuse the issue, a few great bits don't make a great film, especially if the rest of the film is made up of twee simple minded Sci Fi hokum, Teddy bears prowl the woods, Luke finds out Leia is his sisterin an obviously contrived plot twist, & the final Ignominy, Darth Vader turns out to of been a nice old man all the time, creaky voice & bus pass included. Even the main characters seem a little aimless, Han Solo seems redundant. Were asin Empire he was the central character,in Jedi were treated to a man out his depth & floundering, He bumbles through the film like a naughty schoolboy. It gives the movie a feeling that it's just being made upin the pub as they go along
And although there are cinema defining moments, the speeder bike chase being up there with the chariot racein Ben Hur, we're equally treated to truly awful moments. You'd be forgiven for mistaking the start of the movie for The Muppetsin Space & when the first Ewok pops up on the screen I pop off for a cup of tea. And it all culminatesin a battle between Darth Vader & Luke that Pales when compared to the Dark Brooding battle through Labyrinthine corridors that we were treated tooin Empire, Luke & Darth seem to have forgotten how to do spinning flips & Telekinesis, they seem only able to stand constantly whacking there light sabers together like there trying to smash a Piñata,
It's not that Jedi is a particularly bad film, it's just that it's not good, after 2 such good films ending the trilogy on such a low point is such a disappointment & makes you wish for what could have been, OH Well!, Good, bad or indifferent it's an essential part of the trilogy, you can't buy the others without having this & there's certainly worse things you can do with your Saturday afternoon than watch The Return Of the Jedi.

Excellent - By: E. Moffat, 22 Mar 2008
The 1983 film remains cracking to watch especially to see the bizarre decisions the filmakers made to resolve Star Wars. The scale of all the spaceships is amazing to behold. There is excellent use of theatrical pantomime & contrast. We are dramatically re-introduced to Lord Vader. When the Emperor arrives, we see enormous numbers of stormtroopers & spaceships swarmingin to greet him. This is where the film becomes epic. The film also goes through some excellent worlds & we meet some funny characters.

The Limited Edition DVD is out for a 'limited time only'. This DVD contains two discs. The 'bonus' disc contains a 1983-ish version - that is the one you want to watch. I say 'ish' because I have no idea if it is the exact original or the slightly remastered one releasedin the 1990sin VHS format. The other disc contains a 'digitally remastered movie'-in which Lucas basically brings the film into high definition, adds scenes, embellishes things, &in which criticised Australian actor Hayden Christensen unecessarily appears at the end.
Good movie, shame about the ewoks - By: N. Thompson, 26 Jan 2008
Another Star Wars classic although its a shame the ewoks wernt masacred. The final battle between Luke & Vader is what makes this film & the appearence of the Emporer is hugely enjoyable. I would of given this movie 5 out of 5 but them bloody Ewoks!!! ....... hate Ewoks man, hate Ewoks.

..... putting my hatred of Ewoks aside, dont watch the re-mastered version as this DVD has the original version on it & it is by far the superior version to watch. In short the re-mastered version sucks, especially the inclusion of some kind of over the top MTV moment with a hugely expanded musical numberin Jabba the Huts court. Who the hell came up with that idea?? What do they take us for? Brain-dead Idiots!! If this DVD only had the re-mastered version i'd give it 3/5 but as the original is on here as well, id give it 4/5 ...... now all they need to do is re-master them bloody ewoks out of the movie & it could get 5/5.
