Fire Hazzard! - By: DL Productions UK, 07 Sep 2008
Firewall is probably Harrison Ford's worst film, & he has made some excellent moviesin the past, like Frantic, The Indiana Jones series, The Fugitive & many more, but this sadly isn't one. It's not Harrison that's the bad thing; a combination of annoying bad guys & bad plot make this rather cringe worthy. The worst thing about it all is the bad guys, they really are just poor beyond belief. I'm surprised Jack Stanfield didn't punch this guy!
The gist is quite simple: some guys come & kidnap (well so called) & try to get Jack to get them inside his bank & make off with a few millionin their Cayman Island accounts.
There's just so much that's not good about this movie: it's slow, there's not much action for an intense thriller with kidnapping & extortion & the bad guys are just not believable, their threats are just stupid & they keep threatening to shoot Jack, well that would be bye bye to the money, would it not?
Virginia Madsen does do a great supporting role to Harrison, but the film really is weak plot wise & it really doesn't give the cast a chance to shine. The storyline is just too frustrating.
Wouldn't bother with this at all, rent if you must, but buying it is a no-no, unless you're a collector of Harrison Ford movies.
good family entertainment - By: Hill Walker, 31 Jul 2008
I think this is a very good family thriller although one might argue it's possibly a little violent for a 12 certificate. Still, it'll keep you on the edge of your seat. Young (?) Harrison may seem a tiny bit out of placein some of the (very few) action sequences but it's all just about believable & keeps the story going.
It's not a great film but I really don't think it deserves the heavy & elaborate criticisms noted elsewhere. It's admittedly formulaic but parents can feel comfortable watching it with their kids (or letting them watch it).
"Oh my God, what you do want?" - By: Sebastian Fernandez, 17 Oct 2007
After a promising start, this film loses its way & ends up being a slightly below average thriller. The premise is definitely intriguing: a group of men holds hostage the family of the VP of Security of a bank & want him to transfer $100 million from various accounts into their offshore egg nest,in exchange for his family safety. The problem is that after establishing the basic premise, the story gets convoluted & quickly moves towards the realm of the unbelievable, with some situations that are pretty unreal.
Harrison Ford plays the role of Jack, the bank's employee whose family is kidnapped, & he does a fairly good job with the elements he has at his disposal. The fact that some of the scenes are borderline silly is not his fault. Paul Bettany is very convincingin his role as a villain, & he manages to draw some hate from the audience with his portrayal of the leader of the thieves. The rest of the members of the cast do not deserve much praise, & I was especially disappointed by the overdone emotions infused to her character by Virginia Madsen.
Those people that do not mind when a movie has farfetched situations may enjoy this movie more than I did. However, I think that even these people will have to agree that there are many better thrillers availablein the market. This one should get a pass.
HIGHLY WATCHABLE THRILLER IF YOU CAN IGNORE THE CLICHES' AND SOME ASPECTS OF THE PLOT - By: R. G. Williams, 01 Oct 2007
If you are looking for a good thriller, not too violent/swearing, good paced & keep you hooked then Firewall delivers. Harrison Ford plays a fairly stereotype role for him, succesful husband, with kids then something goes wrong & he ends up embroiledin a situation & needs to save his family. The plot starts off quite well but lacks certain depth, before tailing off into a rather unlikely sequence of putting bank's money ahead of his family, before building to a non inspiring finale. Predictable ending with police car arriving right on cue, kind of sums up the movie. It's highly predictable for the most part, & the baddie doesn't have much of a scary edge, but it is still an equally enjoyable thriller that unless you are a really fussy film buff, should leaving you feeling you have seen a good entertaining film.
Good Thriller - By: J. A. Keightley, 13 Aug 2007
I am fed up with films showing unnecessary levels of violence & excessive bad language. This is an action thriller worth watching, well acted & keeps you on the edge of your seat. Watch it.
