The most intelligent comedy of all-time! - By: oldstuff, 26 Dec 2008
Derek Fowlds, Paul Eddington & Nigel Hawthorne gave three career-best performances to turn the scripts of Jay & Lynn into one of the funniest comedy programmes of all-time. Sir Nigel's performance,in particular, was just legendary & so convincing that it said that Her Majesty thought him a real civil servant when they met. With Fowld's Bernard trying to keep the peace & Eddington's Hacker wondering how he can get anything it's just a masterpiece of British comedy. However, it doesn't appeal to everyone. The reason for this is that it was written by people capable of using words with more than four lettersin them & so it does make you both laugh & think at what Humpy is talking about. Loved by politicians for it's accuracy & the British public for it's superb comic performances & excellent scripts, it ranksin the top 5 Brit coms ever!
Timeless, top notch comedy - By: M. Potter, 22 Dec 2008
I can't add much more than other reviewers apart from a hearty recommendation to buy this DVD pack. It's very good value given how much material you get (even better value at Amazon prices of course). The comedy is intelligent & timeless, & it's amazing just how many current day issues are covered by a series that was made over 20 years ago (banking crisis, dodgy arms deals, big brother/identity cards etc. etc.). The episode where Sir Humphrey Applebey has dinner with the bumbling CEO of "Bartlets Bank" is a casein point, where the CEO points out that "..if a chap's giving you a good return on your money then you don't ask too many questions....and besides, you'd be pretty foolish if you had a load of money at 12% not to lend it to someone else at 15%"). Wonderful stuff, & with lots of re-watch value. Buy it.
Excellent - By: scruffyerbert, 10 Dec 2008
I'm so pleased to have got this. I must have forgotten just how good the series was, because I'm happy to say that Yes Minister & Yes Prime minister are even better than my childhood memories of them, though this might possibly be because I now understand all the political satire.
It's on the button satire that hasn't dated & the interplay between Sir Humphrey, Jim Hacker & Bernard is still fresh & as funny as ever.

Brilliant. Definitive version. - By: Richard Kirwan, 14 Oct 2008
This is something that should be owned by any policital satire-lover as well as any fan of Johnathan Lynn. Witty & enjoyable. The Box-Set is easy to access & not cumbersomein the slightest (occasionally you get fed up with these big boxes of TV DVDs where you have to open fifty compartments to get to one disc).
It would be nice to see some behind the scenes footage or get the audio track of Margaret Thatcher's appearance, butin any case, this is a definitive version. No Yes Minister fan should be seen without it!
