Edutainment! - By: Craig E. Huxley, 06 Dec 2007
This has to be one of the most entertaining & educational boxed sets ever made. Not only does it show you corners of the globe that most of us will never see but Michael Palin does it with a humour that almost everyone will enjoy. He is priveleged to meet with distinguished hosts on his travels & the insight he gives us into people's lives is truly humbling at times. My only grumble is that I would like to see some 'bloopers' as an extra (maybe they're there but I haven't found them yet). I look forward to the next series around Europe!
My most over-played dvds! - By: FBPadfoot, 28 Oct 2007
Apart from the misfiring first railways series from many years ago, this series has been constantly enjoyable! But looking back now, it's not just a documentary about different people & countries, it's a way of seeing how the world has changed. BAck when he went around the worldin 80 days, he & the crew really were alone. No mobile phones, no internet, not much help at all from anyone else. And it wasn't all that long ago either! This is a series which just lasts & lasts, & I love it.
Nobody expects... - By: Guzzle, 06 Sep 2007
..or indeed should expect to glean so much pleasure from a DVD box set. I was on a training course when 80 days came out. We were supposed to bondin the evenings & I got stuck listening to somebody drone on about jubilee clips or something or other. The bar-man turned on the TV & there was Mr. Palin going about his business. I didn't even pretend to be paying attention to Mr Bore thereafter & settled down to an hour of sheer enjoyment & it has been that way ever since. I greet each new series with barely contained glee & have even marked my calendar for the New Europe series. His charming demeanour, bonhomie & never ceasing enthusiasm for an adventure rubs off seemlessly. A delight!
Fantastic! Just Fantastic! - By: G. Thavendran, 28 May 2007
I got into Michael Palins's work during one half term when I was channel hopping & a scene from michael palinin around the worldin 80 days caught my eye. Since then I've been addicted to his work. This collection here provides an easy & cheaper way of collecting all his work & watching them at your lesuire as many times as you want.
The DVD's themselves are a piece of art. Interesting, Articulate & witty, Michael provides a humorous blog of his travels, from trying to travel around the world without air travelin 80 to travelling from the north pole to the south pole without using air travel as well.
Buy this. You won't be dissapointed.
World traveller extraordinaire!! - By: Neil Lindsay, 27 Dec 2006
Michael Palin's has now made a successful subsequent career out of travelling the world & talking about these far-flung landsin his own intelligent, witty style. And aren't we the more beneficial for the experience! It is a privilege to hear Michael Palin relay his experiences of his travels, & luckily for us here they all arein one superb box-set. These are perfect to dip into & lose yourself in. An almost perfect Christmas present because it appeals to everyone on so many levels.
