DUMB - By: Brendan O. Clarke, 21 Nov 2008
Zach Braff's most recent swill Last Kiss pised me off more than any cinema experience all year. From the grating, false characters to the painfully self-conscious script, I was always aware that I was watching some smug kid's assumption of what love & relationships are all aboutin the real world.
So contemptuous, so vile, so insipid, & so heavy-handedin its calculated sweetness, that it set new standards for what is becoming the only type of independent film left.
This film is NOT FUNNY...but it is brilliant - By: Ricardo84, 25 Apr 2008
As others have mentioned, this film has been woefully marketed as a comedy drama / romantic comedy - but if you're looking for a film full of cheap gags & laugh out loud moments you're way off track here...
That said, the marketing is pretty much the only thing wrong with the entire film.
The performances are brilliant, particularly Zach Braff & Casey Affleck, & the vast majority of people who watch will find a character to which they can relate.
It doesn't sugar coat issues, not every character comes out of this smiling that's for sure. It's real - people make stupid decisions & others get hurt. It pulls few punches. You find yourself willing characters to make the right choice - do the right thing - invariably they don't...
As such it's probably not the "easiest" film you'll ever watch, but as a study of human nature, & the impact one simple decision can make on so many lives, it's excellent.
The Last Kiss stays with you for a good while after the credits roll - it might even help you make a few right decisions of your own. Now how many comedy dramas do that?
Yep, it's all women's fault men are unfaithful - By: Bezerus Bezby, 29 Mar 2008
Apart from a fairly good soundtrack, there was nothing endearing about this film. All the characters were utterly unlikeable. The women were portrayed as either stupid, sluttish, clingy, whiney, need I go on? Were we suppsoed to identify with the male lead's feelings of fear being justification for cheating on his pregnant girlfriend? Probably the most revolting fact was that he was discovered cheating & rather then trying to make amends, carried on!
Men may like this film, as it might confirm to him that women are "too needy" & marriage isin fact a pile of crap. Yes, relationships can be hard, but it takes two to tango, as they say. Actually I think this film was infair on men as it depicts them all as feckless commitment phobes. Ladies, if you are looking for a romantic comedy, avoid this AT ALL COSTS. It will lead you to believe that all relationships are crap & there are some decent men out there.
Absolute tosh- horriblein fact. The makers of this film should be ashamed
The most likeable character was probably the unborn babyin this film!
Outstanding movie - are you nuts?!? - By: Slartibartfast, 22 Mar 2008
I agree with Javs ans Sean McCann, I like Zach Braffin Scrubs & thought Garden State was pretty decent, but he needs to branch outin his role choices. This film starts fairly ok until the script basically gives up, with little development of really any of the characters. With that, you really don't care about anyonein the story, which I feel is down to not only the script but the direction too. This film is a bad waste of Zach Braff & Rachel Bilson, which is a damn shame.
Fab - By: SL Smith, 30 Jan 2008
This film doesn't really fit into a genre - being neither a comedy nor a drama, but somewherein between.
Michael (Zach Braff) is 29 when his girlfriend announces she's pregnant. This turns his world upside down. It seems so "final" - "I look at my life & I can't see any surprises, it's all planned out". These thoughts lead him somewhere he may regret... sub-plots include Michael's three friends & their ups & downs, & his future in-laws & what goes into a 30-year-marriage.
It's about turning 30, growing up, fidelity, becoming a parent - & many other issues. It's thought-provoking, inspiring, & good to know that others are going through the same thoughts as you! The whole cast is superb, & I'd say this is a must for all movie fans aged 25-35! If you fall outside of that, you'll still enjoy it I'm sure... You will not be disappointed.
