Season FIVE, really: the year of Jock's will - By: Reginald D. Garrard, 20 Jun 2008
Here comes another season of J.R.'s (Larry Hagman) double-dealing ways as he attempts, this time, to wrench control of Ewing Oil from his brother & his mother. The body count rises, literally & figuratively, as the dastardly anti-hero works his machinations for his ultimate ends.

New characters are introduced that play important partsin the developing story line while other characters find themselves more embroiledin the ongoing saga of the Ewing clan.

As far as the new are concerned, prominent among those are Holly Harwood (Lois Chiles) as a reluctant ally to J.R. She finds herself initially fascinated by the oil man but soon sees the real J.R. & eventually must decide where her allegiance lies.

Mark Grayson (John Beck) becomes the "third wheel"in a love triangle that causes a riftin the seemingly unbreakable marriage of Bobby (Patrick Duffy) & Pam (Victoria Principal).

Ray's cousin, Mickey (Timothy Patrick Murphy) becomes the love interest of Lucy but, unfortunately, meets tragedy at the hands of one of the victims of J.R.'s dirty deals.

As far as the "old," Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) continues her "abused wife" ways as she remarries J.R., knowing full well his track rate for "faithfulness."

Ray (Steve Kanaly) & wife Donna (Susan Howard) have their own problems as she tries to balance marriage with an ever-rising political career.

Afton (Audrey Landers) must contend with her love for Cliff (Ken Kercheval) & his obsession with bringing down the Ewings & his love for Sue Ellen.

Lucy (Charlene Tilton) goes through divorce bangs & her burgeoning attraction to Mickey.

Miss Ellie (Barbara Bel Geddes) contends with her feelings for her late husband & her determination to bring an end to the family squabbles. In addition to those, she starts to find herself attracted to another man.

Besides the regulars, recurring characters get their moment to shinein this outstanding season as well. Punk Anderson (Morgan Woodard) stands out as a worthy successor to "Jock" as the one man that can really keep the Ewing boysin line. Besides that, he's one heckuva sharp dresserin his western-styled attire.

Pam's mom, Rebecca (Priscilla Pointer), makes her presence known as she works hard to support both her daughter & son.

Harv Smithfield (George O. Petrie) as the family lawyer must volley both sides of the fence as he must deal with his loyalty to the late Jock's wishes & his friendship with Miss Ellie.

Watching the episodes back to back, one can see how the producers spent a bundle on clothing & locations. Also, the sets were more lavish thanin previous seasons, with upgrades at both the Ewing home & the offices.

Acting-wise, no one can top Hagman as the devilish J.R. His lack of an Emmy win is an unexplainable travestyin the history of television.
Bring Back Dallas! - By: Daskill, 03 Dec 2007
I was born several years after Dallas began so, naturally, I was a bit young to watch it the first time around. I started watching it earlier this year on UK television & when they stopped playing it after season 4, I had just HAD to keep watching.

This season has it all; JR's shady dealings, Bobby & Pam's personal stuggles, Lucy's newest romance & of course, the centrepiece of the season, the desperate battle for Ewing Oil.

Great drama, great moments, whether you're re-watching or watching for the first time, with a season like this, it's hard to see why Dallas ever went off the air!
J.R. vs Bobby: When Two Tribes Go To War - By: Ms. Nancy Buckland, 16 Jul 2007
Season 6 of Dallas shows how much the budget on the show increased as it grewin stature: no more wobbly walls, & Ewing Oil actually has some decent offices. The whole series centres around the fight for Ewing Oil between J.R. & Bobby, a fight set upin a codicil to Jock's will. J.R. & Swellin get married (again) but J.R. is soon back chasing ladies, & Swellin's back on the double voddies (no change there then). Pam takes a fancy to Mark, who let's face it, is not a patch on the gorgeous Bob. The lovely Clayton Farlow romances Miss Ellie, but secretly desires Swellin. And Ray & Donna, now worth $20 million, still livein a house not big enough to swing a Texan critter. As for poor old Lucy, her life is just one long sob story, romance wise. This is vintage Dallas ai its best, & now that Cliff is on the up, the scene is set for Series 7 to be a Barnes-Ewing showdown at the ho-down. Bring it on.
What a great buy ! - By: Mr. Mg Reynolds, 09 Jul 2007
It was brilliant ! I really missed Jim Davis as Jock - but Howard Keel was a fine actor & played his part very well . This season ended on a superb cliff hanger as one would expect with Dallas . Watching Miss Elie come to terms with Jock's death was very moving while Bobby blackmailing one of JR's goons was bizzare - how power corrupts ! It is so unlucky that Miss Lucy still has no luck finding love . Ken Kerchaval just gets better as Cliff Barnes - but Pam's problems over child bearing are dealt with very well . It is a real problem that was done with sensitivity . I hope that we can soon pre-order Dallas Season Seven on Amazon - roll on September 17th !
