Great story and Jamie Draven is in it to...bonus!! - By: Emma Richardson, 18 Mar 2008
i thought Watermelon is a great heartwarming story about a young irish girl trying to find her way & feetin life & all the hassle of love & romance that comes with it ...its funny without being cheesy, light hearted & it still gets to the point. it shows how things are for all the charecters & you get to know & understand how they are all feeling, & connect with the charecters.
Jamie Draven looks very hotin this romantic comedy & as usaul he gives an 100% to this role & give a class A performance! Anna friel gives an excerlent performace too & her accent dosent slip once from start to finish. Brilliant film!!!!!
Water Me Down - By: Ultimate Reviewer, 28 Sep 2007
This is an average film. It is probably the best Anna has made since leaving Brookside & that is saying something. She is usuallyin things with terrible titles I have noticed & I think that is what is holding her success back.
In this film there is again another nude scene of Anna -in a bath - how many directors have tried that with her? She really needs to concentrate on acting & less on thinking that nudity will do the movie good. Bubble bath is usually used to cover you upin that bath - instead the director has Anna's watermelons sticking out through the bubbles so all you can see is her head & her melons. How embarrassing is that. When will Anna learn - not essential to the plot!
MY RATING: Watchable - once!
Yet Another Bad "Title" - By: Dr-Jackson, 28 Sep 2007
If Anna Friel wants to be a successful film star she needs to get into movies with decent titles. Look at the string of bad ones. The Tribe, Me Without You, The Land Girls & now Watermelon. They do not inspire you to watch.
Yet another film. Yet anotehr nude scene for Anna Friel. This time toplessin a bath. Bubble bath usually implies we won't see anything but the director nicley has Anna float her breasts on top of the water. How emabarrassing. At least, I know I would be embarrassed if it were me to have to do that. The directors are using her & she lets them. Nudity will never make you a big star. You need story.
So onto story - is it good - well surprisingly it probably is the best she has done since leaving Brookside. I enjoyed it. It is funny & whitty at times. But only 3 stars because I believe she can do better - if she chooses better scripts. She needs to wait rather than rush to make as many movies as possible hoping one will send her to America stardum - whcih we can tell she so wants. But right now - will never get.
I'm a little bias as I love the actor Jamie Draven, but harmless chick flic nonetheless - By: E. Fowler, 20 Apr 2007
Rom-com, typically girly movie that is lighthearted & entertaining. Shown on ITV approx 2003, so a treat to be released on DVD.
Enjoyable film about the trouble & joys of love & lust & the complications that a child can bring for a young woman who has a 'sporadic relationship with the truth'. A heartwarming tale.
My personal favourite actor Jamie Draven features as lovable & caring character, James. It's well worth a watch with family and/or friends.
