THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT THE TRIBES, NOT BRUCE PARRY'S ADVENTURES - By: Kostas Stamelos, 11 Oct 2008
No doubt, this could have been a very fine documentary. The tribes presented are among the least known & most fascinating on the planet. Therefore, footage of any kind concerning their life is valuable. The problem is that, watching the series, you get the feeling that it is mostly focused on Bruce Parry himself, & how he manages to survive under impossible circumstances. In almost every single scene we see Parry trying to show us how well adapted he has become within the tribe: eating beetles & rats, building his hut, climbing trees, taking hallucinogenic drugs, urinating among the reindeer, or simply having a good time with the local people. I do not underestimate his accomplishments, but, after all, the point of such a documentary series is not to prove how tough, brave & resilient the expedition leader is. It is to present with some detail the daily life, culture, & spiritual beliefs of these vanishing people. This is attemptedin a very shallow & superficial way. It is almost as watching Parry's personal video with his exotic adventures. If most of each film was not devoted to the doings of Bruce Parry (who, after all, is NOT an anthropologist) there would definitely be more time & space for presenting & interpreting the complex world of the tribes.

Absolutely fantastic! - By: J.B., 29 Jul 2008
I'd caught an episode of Tribe on TV & enjoyed it, so took the leap & bought the box set & it was absolutely worth it. Bruce Parry is fantastic at leading you through the new cultures & experiences. Very enjoyable & one you can watch again!

Watch this series and gain insight into how people have lived for the majority of the past 200,000 years plus of the human race - By: Alasdair Robertson, 18 Feb 2008
This series is very exiting to watch (enhanced especially for those who dabblein bushcraft) but for me it is more important than simply giving viewing pleasure). It has given me insight into the past that i would value at much more than 30 quid - try somethingin the region of priceless.

Bruce Parry visits tribes across the whole length & breadth of the world visiting tribes that vary greatly & so are unique. His attitude is such that he is immediately likable. He is very humble even at the end of his journey when he has achieved so much. What he must have learnt on the way- truely remarkable. I could not do it, most could not do it.

There are those i believe that would like others to believe that history proper beganin the 20/1st century & that anything before that can be classed as a time of barbarism, squalor etc. The complexity,love,respect,multi-facetted nature of the people revealedin these short programmes (it is fair, i think, to say that some of the tribes have been leftin such a state as for their ways to be little changed through time) are the same as us - a wise manin one episode is able to reveal the oneness of the human race & indeed of everything.

I hear people here call members of tribes animalistic: we are animals, theyin the episodes are animals, but as the West moves towards a more destructively unsustainable path perhaps we leave the animal kingdom & become as parasites. Perhaps they are better than us. I do not have the answer but perhaps you can find onein these programmes.

Finally I would say that people who would get upset at the destruction of a culture before their very eyes should not watch certain of the episodes - The Penan tribe.
