You'll watch it over and over again! - By: Michelle Plater, 06 Oct 2008
This film is fantastic. I rented it & watched it 5 times before I took it back & then ordered one from Amazon. I'm notin the habit of watching films repeatedly, & neither are my family, but even as my sister watched it for the first time she said "can we watch it again when it's finished"!
Perfect casting for the kid, he's amazing... adorable. The story is entirely music based, & even being completely tone deaf, I loved the whole thing. Buy it, rent it, whatever, just give it at least one watch :-)
Watch - listen - and enjoy!! - By: Louise Amkaer, 01 Oct 2008
"August Rush" is beautiful - the kind of beautiful that will make you laugh & cry, even though it has a foreseeable ending & it has a distinct Oliver Twist-y flair.
"August Rush" is about the 11-year-old Evan, who has lived his entire life as an orphan, hearing music emanating from the world around him. The opening scene, where Evan is standingin a field of wheat, movingin the wind, perfectly encapsules this. Even is sure that his parents are out there & runs away from the orphanage/home. He arrivesin New York & is guided by music.
Music plays a crucial rolein "August Rush". There is the classical cello for the mother, lead rock guitar & song for the father, the blues harmonica for the Fagan-character Wizard, & the composit sound of the city/environment for the searching Evan. Anybodyin the movie has their own sound/music.
For those of you who fear a too-sweet movie, let me say that there is no overly romantic and/or cheasy finale. THAT scene has thankfully been omitted.
Oh yes, I have to mention the cast. This is one of those movie with a great ensemble casts. Robin Williams' eccentric & slightly crazy Wizard does seem a little on the over-played side, but the rest of the cast fill their roles to perfection.
Watch - listen - & enjoy!!

Rubbish - By: GG, 21 Sep 2008
Looked promising so we took a chance on it however this proved to be a big mistake! Judging by the other reviews on here I think this is one of those love it or hate it films & we fall into the later catagory. The film is slow moving, totally unrealistic & poorly acted even though the actual cast is a good one. Overall I would say this is one of the worst films we have ever seen!
Who cares about needing to suspend belief in reality? This film is amazing. - By: A. J. Sturgess, 18 Sep 2008
True - its a fantasy fairytale, but it is also unbelievably beautiful. There isn't any way to adequately describe it's effect because it acts directly upon your emotions & can veer between darkness & light, sadness & joy, hope & despair, loss & discovery, all within a matter of seconds. But if ever a DVD deserved - no NEEDED - an extra features section showing how the incredible music tracks were conceived & created, then this film is it. That is the only flawin this otherwise perfect release.
Almost the worst film I have ever sat through - By: Tome Raider, 26 Aug 2008
The only person who could enjoy this film would be someone who could completely suspend all beliefin reality. The story is so far fetched that it is laughable. It draws from various sources not least of which is Oliver Twist, with Robin Williamsin the role of Fagin. I have read some of the reviews which praise the film & I am frankly amazed. I have seen worse films but am struggling to name them !!!!
