![]() Comparing Prices... Customer ReviewsBoring - By: C. Pusey, 09 Sep 2008![]() After a promising first episode I thought the rest of the series was boring. I didn't find it funny even though it's described as a comedy & I found the narration tedious. I didn't think that it was exciting at all & the scope of the story is very narrow. It was the same episode after episode. I stuck it out & watched the whole series, but I won't be watching the next series. This really doesn't deserve all of the hype & promotion it gets & I don't know why ITV chose this US drama to show primetime on ITV1, there are much more deserving ones out there. It should have just been shown on ITV2. Imaginative and quirky - By: Francesca Cook, 13 Aug 2008 ![]() Everything about this works so well. The scenery is a cross between cartoon, theatre & dreamy, & the stories belongin there. The characters are individual & amusing, & the cast are obviously having a good time with the script & their roles, & for the nine episodes of season one there isn't a bad one. The down side to this dvd set is there's no extras, which is a shame. I would like to see the cast talk about it or the people behind the scenes who dream it all up but I haven't knocked a star off because of that. The series is original, fresh & welcoming each time I've sat down to an episode. the facts are these - By: Paul Tapner, 02 Aug 2008 ![]() pushing daisies is an american tv series. This is a dvd release of the first season, which ran for a mere nine episodes due to writers strike of the time curtailing it's chances of being longer. the show is about ned sparks, a man with an unusual gift. if he touches a dead thing, it comes back to life. but if it lives again for more than one minute, something else must diein the meantime. ned like pies. & runs a restaurant called the pie hole, where he makes & serves them. seemingly the only other member of staff there is olive snook, a short lady who works as a waitress & has a crush on her boss. which he hasn't noticed. ned uses his abilityin partnership with emerson cod, a money loving private detective. he will bring murder victims back to life for a moment, so they can tell him who killed them. if he touches a dead thing before the minute is up then they die again. this way they can collect the rewards for capturing the killers, & nobody else has to diein the meantime. ned has a dog called digby. which was the first dead thing he revived when he discovered his talent. digby has been around ever since & thus ned can't touch him. his world is changed when his childhood sweetheart, a girl called chuck, turns out to be the latest murder victim. he can't bring himself to not let her live again. & thus she joins themin life at the pie hole & solving crimes. ned & chuck are clearly mad about each other but can't take that any further, because they can't touch. and that sets the scene for this most unusual & radically different of tv shows. this is because it's incredibly stylised, all shots being brightly coloured & carefully staged. an amazingly whimsical show, narrated by jim dalein a whimsical style, it meditates on life & love & the big questionsin addition to providing the ongoing story arc of the relationships between the main characters & the mystery of the week. it has been likened to the work of film director tim burton, & that is an excellent analogy. you will either fall head over heels for this show & find it charming, or it may be too whimsical & different for your tastes. but if nothing else, it's certainly worth a look. the dvd contains the nine episodes of season one, spread over three discs. each disc offers you the chance to turn off the recap at the beginning of each episode should you so desire. There is no direct scene access. the only language track isin english. & there are subtitlesin english & dutch. also note that if you saw the show when it was recently broadcast by the terrestial station ITV one, they missed out the second episode for reasons that all rather academic now, so this is your chance to see it should you have not managed to catch up with it since If you love Amelie, you'll love this - By: E. Murphy, 09 Jul 2008 ![]() A lovely, innovative, romance/detective series. I really enjoyed watching the series & the decadent artwork & graphics used. A shame it's only 9 episodes & quite expensive for the same reason. Wonderful fantasy whodunnit show - By: Kristen Sherry, 07 Jul 2008 ![]() I think this show is a must for everyone. The quick-fire scripts help to quickly establish the quartet of lead characters who develop wonderfully as the show progresses. The narration by Carry On star Jim Dale steals the limelight just a fraction every episode. The mixture of comedy, mystery, fantasy & drama is just right - Gordon Ramsay couldn't come up with a better recipe
