Loved it - By: Veronica Walsh, 13 Aug 2008
Loved this movie - reminiscent of the old British bank robbery films - Jason was great not overacting & trying to be the movie equivalent of Phil Mitchell. Great cast, & as a Brit living abroad the location scenes were great, good story that wasn't just about robbing a bank.
How Times Are Changing - By: DL Productions UK, 06 Aug 2008
The Bank Job is one interesting film to say the least - Jason Statham actually doesn't have a very violent role like he's enjoyedin other films like The Transporter, & he's got a lot to think about, & gets a lot more dialogue, & more emotionin him. You get to see a very shady side of the law, the governmental system & crooksin general, with the problems of fundamentalists too.
A very interesting look at what happened during one of the biggest heists this country has seen, claiming that the haul was actually bigger than the train robbery that Buster had committed. Some of the best moments include when they send that guy on the roof & he knocks off his radio; oh & when Terry falls down that hole.
I really enjoyed this film, was really pleased it wasn't too Lock Stock, because I'm fed up with this English Gangster genre we seem to have either made ourselves, or had bestowed upon us by America. Jason is greatin this & shows he does deserve a leading role with something that requires more than just muscle. The supporting cast were good too, especially Daniel Mays as Dave; & of course Saffron Burrows as Martine, the rather cheeky femme.
The DVD presentation is not bad, good colours & good audio levels, but you don't get any extras whatsoever. This is pretty poor - I would have expected some featurettes on how they did a few things & a look back at 60s crime, but no such luck.
Definitely worth renting, then if you like it, then buy it. I think I will definitely be watching it again.
Just the job! - By: B. Harris, 30 Jul 2008
This is a excellent caper,i watched this at the cinema & from start to finish was glued!I dont usually watch films like this but was very glad i did.Jason Statham brings a charm to the screen with his ruggged looks & husky voice. The story was re-told brilliantly with a great cast & shocking scenes of violence which were portrayed well.If you love action with a bit of mystery then you have to see this,Kelly Brook eat your heart out!

22 Carat Solid Gold Entertainment - By: Nick D., 28 Jul 2008
This film is living proof that you simply cannot trust 99% of the film critics out there. Better still, this is British film making doing what it does best & delivering an A+ performance. I cannot recommend this film more highly.
It is very well written, acted, directed, art directed & edited.
Jason Statham puts a neat performance as the lead. Saffron Burrows is both decorative & intelligentin a way good female leads used to be & Bond girls ought to be. David Suchet is always worth the price of admission. The rest of the cast delivers nicely judged roles that make this movie highly evocative of the 70s. The cars are great!
As soon as I saw Ian Le Frenais was partly responsible for the script I knew we werein good hands. (If you don't know who Ian Le Frenais is, check out his other stuff & you'll see that my words do not exaggerate his talent.) What we get is a great story with plenty of interesting sub-plots all neatly interwoven & brought to a perfect dramatic conclusion. Having just seen 'No Country for Old Men' & been bitterly disappointed with a film that totally fails to match the Oscar hype that surrounded it, it was nice to see a film without any expectations & to be royally entertained. I've never heard of the director Roger Donaldson, but rest assured we'll be hearing more from him.
The plot of this movie is based on a true story, which makes it more than just another heist movie. I wonder if the Royal involved was Princess Margaret? So a massive thumbs for this hidden gem. Hollywood: take note. Taditional formulas when done properly can still be incredibly effective.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First rate Brit flick - By: Chris Wood, 18 Jul 2008
This is a very entertaining story behind some dodgy types deciding that a bank holds cash that should be theirs. When they manage to pull it off - with plenty of good tension - they find compromising material of a dynamite nature & their lives get even more complex.
This is a great thriller & a superb night in. Good stuff.
