A little bit superficial - By: Nikolay Pelov, 01 Sep 2008
Before I ordered the movie, I was quite curious about it from reading reviews. But after watching it I got a little bit disappointed. In my opinion, it is not very well presented & only scratches the surface of spirituality (if this is the point of the movie). It is kind of ironic thatin the movie they mention that we are constantly bombarded by images from the media but the film itself is a bombardment of images, interviews & sounds from all over the world, taken out of context & juxtaposed to each other.
The concept of traveling around the world & doing accidental interviews with well known people & recording interesting musicians seemed intriguing. But I'm afraid that the end result is not very astonishing, may be because there wasn't a clear vision of the project. Some of the interviews were certainly interesting but as a whole the movie wasn't very enlightening to me.
A BEAUTIFUL WAKE UP CALL. - By: HS, 18 Aug 2008
One Giant Leap's first film was excellent. I cannot come up with a superlative good enough for 'What About Me'....but I will try. There is something about this wonderful film that awakens a very positive spiritin the viewer....like, let's run out into the street & start dancing kind of thing. I saw the bandin Amsterdam's Milky Way Club a few years back & was struck by their extremely positive energy there also. The film is beautifully & meticulously crafted & a pure joy to behold. The musical soundtrack is a mindblowing blend of some of the best music from the world music scene. While listening to it I was at times moved to tears by the musicians dynamic & heartfelt performances. The interviews were inspiring & thought provoking & too many to comment onin full. I was never a great fan of Sir Bob Geldorf, but I take my hat of to the man now after hearing his sincere & frank comments during the film. Bhagwan Das was superb, a spiritual teacher with a unique & straight to the heart message to deliver. Eckhart Tolle was simply marvelous, his concise & expressive way of capturing the human condition & delivering great truthsin uncomplicated language is incomparable. The visuals from ethnic cultures were poignant, colourful & emotive. Urban scenesin your face, real & disturbing, yet somehow presenting a vision of hope. In the end though, it was the musicians who stole the show, speaking their universal language that can unite the myriad of cultures that exist on our planet today. If you feel that you are an intelligent person who loves soulful music & are interestedin a magnificent stream of consciousness movieMind Bomb, look no further. One world, one love. Lets wake up & make this world a better place for our children to live, dance & play in.
Audiovisual genius - By: Evan, 13 Aug 2008
As with '1 Giant Leap', 'What About Me?' is an outstanding compilation of sound, visuals & wisdoms from many fascinating spots the world over. It is a spiritual journey that will touch your soul & provoke your mind. It is a work of art - true genius!
Inspirational - Again - By: Lost For Words, 12 Jun 2008
Truly quite unique (apart from the first one of course) & dare I say even better. I watched the TV series on Channel 4 & was so pleased to find the series on the DVD too as well as a 2 hour movie about a dozen short films & extras too.
I still sometimes go & watch the trailers at the whataboutme.tv website during the day to give me a spark
Such a fantastic line up too, Lila Downs, KD Lang, Will Young, Carlos Santana, Stewart Copeland, Baba Maal, Zap Mama.. .and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head .... I mean really & that also doesn't even touch on all the philosophies of people like Stephen Fry, Susan Sarendon & Ekhart Tolle.
I can't wait for the album & was thrilled when I found some tracks on Myspace & Facebook
It's all going to be fine - By: J. Knowles, 09 Jun 2008
Well done all involved a true service to humanity. This film makes you realize that everything is going to be fine. It should be on the national syllabus, it should be played constantly on one of the masses of digital channels that we now have, it should be subtitled & translated to every language on the planet. Buy it. Watch it. Share it.
