What better way to celebrate Hans van Manen's cool & stylish choreography? Dutch National Ballet invited some of the world's greatest dancers & companies to take partin the 'Hans van Manen Festival' & this DVD is a must-have for anyone who is a fan of the choreographer's understated work.
Uliana Lopatkina is gorgeousin Trois Gnossiennes - it looks like this ballet was made for her.
You would expect Holland's major dance companies, Dutch National Ballet & Nederlands Dans Theatre, to be at home with van Manen's style & they certainly are - their outstanding dancers find all the emotional intensityin Adagio Hammerklavier, Simple Things & Twilight.
Lucia Lacarra is stunningin 5 Tangos, her extensions & the flexibility of her spine have to be seen to be believed.
The DVD 'extras' include interesting interviews with van Manen himself & many of the performers - I loved Lopatkina's insight into the emotional impact of Trois Gnossiennes. There are also snippets of backstage & rehearsal footage which are great to see.
Recommended for all ballet fans!
