Quite Good contest & DVD - Shame no Blu-ray - By: Mark, 28 Jun 2008
The Eurovision Song Contest 2008 DVD comes on 3 discs:
* The Semi Final 1
* The Semi Final 2
* The Grand Final.
The 2 semi-finals & grand final are presentedin 1.78:1 anamorphic format, though some features on the discs are presentedin a 4:3 ratio - eg. the "Local Performance" sections (except for one of the local performance songs which isin non-anamorphic w/s). The discsin the case are placed on top of each other, rather thanin separate sections - I'm not sure if this will protect the discs enough.
It comes on 3xDVD9s, with a duration of 485 min, is not region coded & isin PAL format. It includes Dolby 5.1 & Dolby Stereo.
This is first contest with 2 semi-finals. The contest itself is quite good, there are more songs than previous years (particularly with the additional semi-final, though there are probably fewer good songs thanin some other recent years). As usual there is no option to hear the local commentary that is on the broadcasts.
Picture Quality:
The picture quality could be slightly better than last year, though there is still some blocking & some dark green blocks/noisein darker areas. Songs with flashing stage lighting & fast camera movement also show more compression artefacts, though there are also artefacts surrounding the stationary country text. The quality isn't too bad though (and at least the contest & semi-finals arein anamorphic wide-screen rather than non-anamorphic). It's a shame no Blu-ray was produced as it is capable of a higher data rate, resolution & functionality (eg. Blu-ray should allow playlist creation), as, like the 2007 contest, this was recorded & broadcastin high definition.
Best Hopes - By: Saša Uzelac, 15 Jun 2008
I was on the Eurovision Song Contestin the Arena. It was the best Esc so far. I hope this DVD release will be great as well. 12 points for the organisation, music, Beogradska Arena, fans, Belgrade & everything else.
Great Job Serbia.
