A re-release of the "Limited Edition" release and absolutely no improvement on the Theatrical version transfers. - By: Mr Ghostface, 22 Nov 2008 
I just want to provide a bit of information that is missing from the product listing, which is of great interest to many people. That is, has the transfer of the Theatrical Editions been improved over the insult that was released last time? And the answer is a plain & simple "no". The Special Edition is the same fantastic transfer as we've had before (albeit with the same bizarre discolouration problems) & the Original Theatrical Editions are still not anamorphic. Why? Well, we all have our suspicions about that.
Putting it simply, if you don't have the Star Wars trilogy on DVD, this release is cheap enough & worth getting, but if you own it & were hoping for an improvement over the previous release (no longer limited, it seems), then don't waste your money.

Yes, the Star Wars cash cow is on show again presented nicely so it might win "best of breed". I supposein a way this is George Lucas's revenge on the public, who pestered him for the original trilogy on dvd & then pestered him some more for the original original versions on dvd. My only surprise is that it doesn't say Limited Edition (yawn)

There is no need to introduce or explain the original trilogy.
Wev'e all seen them, time & time again. Ground breaking SFX,
excellent morality story-telling & wonderful music.
Of course the the first two films are five stars & of course
the Ewoks did bring down the credibiltyin 'JEDI' but allin all
these films are only really challenged by Jackson's epic LOTR trilogy.
Having said all of this i'm given this 'New'? boxset only 3 stars, not
because of the films but 3 stars to Lucasfilm. George knows what we want, the entire saga (six films) on HD or Blueray. But he keeps milking the fans time & time again. He will no-doubt bring out each film of HD/BR,
and then a year later each trilogy & then finally the entire saga.
I'm going to wait for the entire saga!

I was seven when Star Wars first came outin the cinema, & ever since, a full 31 years, I have been hooked on the films. Now I introduce my son to them, & yaaay! Here we go again! All the memories flood back, & there is his newfound excitement adding to my enjoyment of what had to be one of the best ever trilogies put up on the big screen.
It isn't just the movies, but having the option to watch either the digitally remastered version, or the older version that I remember better, is a great thing. From the special effects, to the fantastic cast, the scene setting opening credits, with that amazing musical sound track, the weird & wonderful aliens, right through to the pithy relationship of Leia & Han, these were truly fantastic movies, & should bein everyone's collection. Not just for the now, & those of us who remember them originally, but for the future, when we can delightin introducing others to the eternal fight of good against evil, & the story of determination, love, & hope that these movies represent.
Now, where did I leave my popcorn...
