The Visible Invisible Man and the not completely "Unaired Pilot" - By: D. Solomon, 13 Jul 2008
Great set from Network.Amusing to hear Lisa & Debs nattering away over a couple of episodes, reminds me of how we used to have to watch our fave TV showsin olden days. However, both the ladies (and Brian & Ray) seem to be at a loss at the identity of the actor who played our see through hero.He is visible(i.eTim Turner)in the episode on disc 4 called "Man In Disguise".He's the baddie (Nick), who impersonates Brady & nearly kills him at the end. There's no phoney American accent there but note the intonationin his voice,it's Brady's voice all right.Nice to see the unaired pilot but the second half is actually the second half of the episode that became "Bank Raid" where they kidnap the brat. After a completely different beginning to the one actually aired,we get a bit of "Picnic with Death",another unseen sequence & then it's "Bank Raid" all the way to the end.I suppose they decided to have a more hush hush top secret element to the early part of the show & the aired first episode gives Nigel Hawthorne a first chance to say "Yes,Prime Minister" down a phone, good practice for later
Fond memories of a great series - By: P. S. Hall, 28 Oct 2007
I remember watching the series as a child & being both delighted & amused by the special effects. Watching it again now nearly 50 years later it hasn't lost any of its charm or its magic. I absolutley love the introductory music & visual presentation. It does indeed bring back fond memories.
As an example of the humorous side to it there was a scene where the invisible Peter Brady wasin hot pursuit of a villain running away from him. In his path was a man & a woman walkingin opposite directions. Just at the point where they pass each other Brady pushes them aside as he ran between them. The woman angrily turns on the man, thinking that he rudely pushed her aside, & smacks the poor bewildered chap hard around the head. I couldn't help but find that hilariously funny!
Looking back on it with hindsight, it really does credit to the production team. It was a remarkable achievement technically for its time.
What else can I say. I think it's just great!

A Hidden Gem - By: Mr. David S. M. Weir, 21 Oct 2007

Too often these days, film is ruled by a pre-dominance of style over substance. In the late 50's & early 60's, home-grown big budgets & special effects were not available, thus making producers & directors rely on script, characterisation & ingenuity. And, that's no bad thing.

Take this series of "The Invisible Man". By extensive use of location work - fairly unusual at the time - it was given a relatively high production value & authenticity. The special effects - albeit modest by today's standards - are, takenin the context of their time, very good. When it comes to Peter Brady - the "Invisible Man" himself - the question you have to ask is, "Does he hold your interest, and, do you believe him?"

Personally, I think the answer is "Yes". This is a period gem. It's anybody's guess as to why it has never been re-runin this country. I make no apologies for saying that I remember it fondlyin my youth, and, re-visiting itin this box-set has done nothing to diminish my memories!
