Bad title - even worse film - By: John Holmes, 02 Sep 2010
Saw this for the first time recently - well, I had been avoiding it after reading all the negative views, but I gavein eventually.

I wish I had now avoided the temptation - because it was a terrible film. Who on earth wrote the screenplay? There's not even a trace of humanityin Craig's Bond, as he becomes increasingly brutal, & increasingly unlikeable. And just where is the story? I couldn't make any sense of it, & if there was a plot, it was very well hidden. After the triumph of Casino Royale, this has dumped the franchise back to square one. It has lost its soul.

Nobody could watch this film & come away with a smile on their faces - more like a look of bemused confusion for being soundly cheated.

Please - can we have the real James Bond backin the next installment, not a humourless, soulless killer? Oh, & a plot wouldn't go amiss.
Painful! - By: Another second Generation Irishman, 15 Aug 2010
Oh dear God! What was that? Their idea of a Bond villain has gone from Odd Job or Jaws to Rowan Atkinsonin Blackadder the First! I could see how that pudding basin haircut would put the fear of God into any secret agent. The South American contact was ginger & couldn't speak Spanish - perfect for blending in. As for the editing, I'm honestly curious if anyone with epilepsy actually had a seizure watching this film. Just a ridiculously high number of cuts.

Bond used to be a character that men & boys would want to be like. Now he's exactly like I was aged 17. Drove a Ford, crap at riding a motorbike & when faced with a mind-numbingly hot Ukrainian woman, he chickens out of asking her out.

Pathetic. If the next offering is as bad as this then please let's call it a day!

Bought this dvd because some scenes were filmed on Lake Garda, & we have just come back from there.
The film was a great price, & it was ok to watch. G Brown.
The name's Bond, Indiana Jones Bond - By: ergoatlantis, 09 Aug 2010
This review may contain SPOILERS. I'm glad I did pay good money to see this at the cinema. Although promoted as a sequel to Casino Royale, the style was way too different for my liking. The biggest problem for me was the frenetic editing whereby all the action sequences were split up into little clips, sometimes only a few frames at a time that left me dizzy & wondering what had happened. It started with the opening car chase & continued with the Siena scene & then the opera scene. Nor did I manage to follow the interactive screens at M's headquarters. Thank goodness I was watching the DVD so I could hit the slow motion & reverse buttons.

The plot was also a big letdown. (SPOILERS) What starts out as a revenge thriller for the death of Vesper Lynd, the story gets into a plot to take control of an underground lake. Yes folks, forget nuclear warheads, gold or doomsday weapons, what the world's governments are getting into a tizzy over is a load of water. What makes this a lot worse than it sounds is that this water isin a remote area of the world that never sees rain, so that when the water is used up there is no replenishment - why would anyone want to investin that?

The plot though, just seems to be a device for performing a series of stunts. The stunts are very impressive with chases over rooftops, car & boat chases & of course, the explosive finale. The more I saw of this film, the more I was reminded of the second Indiana Jones film which also seemed to be a film of stunt following stunt. The escape from the aeroplane only needed a fedora & bullwhip to be pure Indy Jones. The only bright spotin this sorry saga was Gemma Arteton's Agent Fields. She could have been the new Miss Moneypenny but instead of being onlyin the office, she could have been a field contact for Bond - Field Agent Fields? I feel that the makers were so intent on their homage agenda that they missed a trick.

At the start of this review I said that I was glad that I did not pay to see thisin the cinema. I am also glad that I waited for a cheap DVD to come on the market. The Special Edition is two discs. The special features disc is a disappointment, with the different chapters repeating a lot of the clips. The year 2012 will mark the 50th. Anniversary of the first Bond Film, Dr No, so I will not be surprised if there is an Ulimate Edition for that (great marketing, yes?), & the cynicin me tells me that there will be many more Ultimate Editions to come.
Jamez Bond - By: J. P. Rake, 24 Jun 2010
The secondin the series of the ever so cool Daniel Craig as 007. Not as good as Casino Royale but still a real good romp & all the typical ingredientsin the new era.
